France, a middle-aged divorcée, has just been laid off after 20 years at the same shipping company. She takes an overdose of pills but is rushed to hospital and makes a complete recovery. Desperate for employment to support her three children, she moves to Paris where she connects with Ahmed, the father of a former co-worker. France pretends to be a low-skilled immigrant to find menial work, but is then offered the chance to be the housekeeper for Stéphane, a wealthy French banker who has returned to Paris after 10 years in London. The relationship between the pair is initially tense, but he eventually warms to her, especially after she proves herself an adept hand at taking care of his son for a month, an extra duty for which she is paid EUR200 a day. The relationship between them turns amorous on a trip to London to meet with partners of Stéphane's firm.

Movie Reviews

Spirituality and Practice - 8/10 by Frederic and Mary Ann BrussatA clever and thought-provoking French comedy about two people who are thrown together: a working-class single parent and a high-finance superstar who makes money the easy way.
NPR - 7/10 by Mark JenkinsKlapisch is a master of the half-biting, half-soothing farce, and he usually keeps the divergent tones in harmony.
Variety - 7/10 by Boyd van HoeijThough the setup sounds cliche, the storytelling is polished enough to keep auds hooked and occasionally surprised.
Time Out - 6/10 by Keith UhlichA Euro gloss on "Pretty Woman" suddenly turns into "Occupy Gaul."
Chicago Sun-Times - 6/10 by Roger EbertTrue, the movie sidesteps a couple of cliches it seems headed directly toward, but I might have preferred them to the preposterous melodrama it substitutes.
Critic's Notebook - 5/10 by Martin TsaiUnfortunately, "My Piece of the Pie" isn't the kind of indie charmer Mr. Klapisch used to make.
New York Times - 5/10 by Stephen HoldenPaints an alluring picture of a pan-European cosmopolitan culture whose characters hopscotch from one country to another with hardly a second thought in a lighthearted floating party.
Slant Magazine - 3/10 by Andrew SchenkerCédric Klapisch settles for a mixture of bland obviousness and crudely manufactured drama.
Village Voice - 3/10 by Nick SchagerA feeble stab at topicality from that master of overripe Gallic melodrama, Cédric Klapisch.
User Review - 10/10 by paul BTrès intà (C)ressant, surtout quand on travail dans une banque !
