Goth-noir thriller about a young woman from London (Foch), desperate for work, that answers a job ad and winds up not only as a live-in employee but as a shut-in, miles from London and kept there by 'her family'. Creepy through-out with very good acting all around especially by Nina Foch.

Nina Foch is a bit over the top in the lead, but Dame May Whitty and George Macready are effective villains. Hard to find, but worth seeking out for fans of classic thrillers.

Good acting all around and George Macready is great as a knife wielding bad tempered maniac. It's a good story, but the film is just a hour and 10 minutes and at times a little rushed.

It's not Hitchcockian in technique so much as mood and psychology. In fact, there's nothing special about it in terms of technique, but it's a really interesting little film.
