Leave your thoughts about My Joy.
MUBIDaniel Kasman..."My Joy"'s striking structure is directly inspired by a strange record of anecdotes that disturb the story of a young truck driver's route through the Russian countryside.
Antagony & EcstasyTim BraytonTerribly difficult to come to grips with, and impossible to shake.
Globe and MailLiam LaceyMy Joy is a challenge to watch but hard to forget.
Film School RejectsLandon PalmerIt's a journey that takes us through unexpected, often harrowing twist and turns, unafraid to leave us perplexed, confused, or even frustrated.
NOW TorontoPaul EnnisThe unsettling mood -- many scenes have a documentary verisimilitude that heightens the threat of random violence -- keeps us off-balance but riveted.
Digital SpyMayer NissimIf the desire is to unsettle and disorientate, the movie succeeds, but it does so at the expense of pretty much all else.

User ReviewWilliam SVery interesting film with direction influenced by Elem Klimov's "Come and See" and Bela Tarr's style. Bleak? F*ck yeah, and it also makes you not want to go to Russia LOL. I'm never really on board, however, when a film like "My Joy" uses metaphor editing. For example, I understand the use of the scene at the house with the father, son, and deserters, but it's just placed weird in the film, kinda of like Loznitsa made up his mind to use it where ever. It works though and I liked the 3rd act. In retrospect, the beginning scene makes sense once the film ends.
User ReviewAlex HIn a word its harrowing. I started watching it and couldn't stop until the end, it does get a little weaker towards the end but the cinematography and acting keep this movie interesting from beginning to end.
