It's a new school year at Tides High on the California coast, and Dash, entering his sophomore year, is hopeful it will be a new start to his high school life, much like the physical structure of the school is going through renewal with, among other things, a new gymnasium being built on the top floor. He and Assaf, who write together on the school newspaper, the Tides Gazette, are each other's only true friend at the school - Dash the alpha between the two - no one in the school who reads the paper. The only other person with who they associate is Verti, the paper's editor. The school year doesn't start as Dash would hope as not only are he and Assaf and by association the newspaper as ignored as they were last year, but Assaf has found a new alpha in his life, namely Verti as the two embark on a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship. But Dash ends up discovering something in the school's archives which has the potential to change fundamentally the nature of the school in its entirety, the story, which he wants to expose, at its core the corruption of school authority. With this information, Dash, who may know better than most what to do if his prediction comes to fruition to save the school and the lives of his classmates, has to find his voice, which he may be able to do with some others who he least expects.

Movie Reviews

Nerdist - 9/10 by Michael ArbeiterAdorably minimalistic one minute and strikingly surreal another, the visual artistry of My Entire High School shoulders much of the weight of its storytelling.
Minneapolis Star Tribune - 9/10 by Colin CovertAt first I wasn't receptive to Shaw's smudgy, wobbly visual clutter. Then I realized, "Oh, this is a thing."
The Young Folks - 8/10 by Yasmin KleinbartRegardless of who he made it for, My Entire High School Sinking Into the Sea is a very talented debut that will, hopefully, put Shaw and Samborski on people's radars.
Chicago Reader - 8/10 by J. R. JonesThe animation set pieces scattered throughout the movie are frequently inspired, pulling in all manner of media and materials, and the backgrounds can be dazzling.
The Mary Sue - 8/10 by Charline JaoWith so much going on, this is a coming-of-age that doesn't really slow down.
Seattle Times - 8/10 by Moira MacDonaldMostly - as that title deserves - it's a funny, imaginative trip down a high-school rabbit hole, in which we're reminded that catastrophic disasters may come and go but what matters in high school is where you fit on the school's social ranking.
Common Sense Media - 8/10 by Sandie Angulo ChenEdgy high-school disaster comedy is memorably offbeat.
Toronto Star - 8/10 by Peter HowellHoly guacamole! Fast Times at Ridgemont High collides with The Poseidon Adventure in graphic novelist Dash Shaw's exuberant animated mash-up.
Film Threat - 7/10 by Dean LamannaMy Entire... turns the sentiment "School sucks so hard"...-into a hellish, blackly comic apocalypse Carrie White would envy.
Film Journal International - 7/10 by Rebecca PahleScrappy and surreal, this GKids release should appeal to both eccentric teenagers and onetime eccentric teenagers with fond memories of "Daria" and "Clone High."
