Filmcritic.com - 5/10 by Don WillmottWriter/star Charlie David may have wanted to keep things low key, but the movie ends up coming across as low voltage
User Review - 8/10 by Robb TExcept for the posh upper middle class life style of this family, I loved this film. It's a sensitive look at a gay male character turning up in the center of their summer get away and turning their world up side down. It may not be the "greatest" film ever made, but its message is skillfully brought out and the resolution ambiguous enough to be realistic. Compared to earlier gay themed films, which used to be horrible, this one is excellent. Every character in the story is profoundly affected by the outcome and everyone comes out a better human being. Bravo!
User Review - 8/10 by Brian MLoved this movie and it was a pleasure to watch! Its about best college friends Tyler and Chase who decide to spend Summertime at the lakeside cabin of Tyler's parents Nathan and Stacey (played by Dan Payne and Thea Gill). Nothing but golf, barbecues, and swimming lessons. Everything seems perfect until Tyler drags Chase to a couple of Animal House-like parties featuring beer funnels and slutty girls, but Chase fails to be attracted to the women that Tyler points in his direction. Chase is forced to reveal to Tyler a secret he kept from him;fortunately Tyler remains his best friend and seems fine with the disclosure...the drama continues until something else happens that threatens to tear the family apart! Great film and added to my private collection! Highly recommended!!
User Review - 8/10 by Sarah .I was debating rating this 3.5 or 4. As you can see I went with 4. It may be slightly generous but I will try and justify it. This story is well written and acted on all parts. The characters present real emotions which makes it believable. I think though the reason that I was impressed by this movie was because it was realistic. I mean it wasnt cliched or perfect. It was very real and true to how life actually is. The way that characters respond to situations are authentic and the ending was completely natural. I mean it wasnt your perfect everything is roses ending, and it wasnt cliched with some fantastical tragedy or anything of that sort. No, it was simple and true to reality. For that I was impressed. Also, for me personally I feel pride when I see a movie filmed in Canada, written by Canadians, acted by Canadians etc. Especially if its a good movie. Which this one is.
User Review - 8/10 by Budi GFor me this movie is the perfect Sunday movie. To describe/review this movie in detail is difficult. It's better in terms of quality than most of the recent American gay indie (Shelter, Kiss the bride etc). However this movie falls into a "grey" area and I can see why gay activists will loathe this movie. The story, although highly unlikely that it will happen in real life (Western countries), it's still a possibilty (probably much greater in Asia since gay men are still being forced into marriage to produce children). The pros of this movie: It takes a lot of guts to make this kind of movie (I've never seen one with this kind of topic). I like the ending, it's realistic. The movie doesn't look/feel cheap due to the beautiful backdrop(Vancouver island). The AMAZING SOUNDTRACK....I will get my hands of Ben Sigston's CD. The cast is mesmerizing esp. Dan Payne...the cons: they should hire some other actor to play the role of Chase. It's a guilty pleasure (DILF fantasy film), this movie is for gay audience only. I won't show it to any of my girlfriends....anyway it is good that all characters are full of humanity and love...if it happens in real life it will be a total mess. Overall it's an enjoyable movie. Think of it as a Lifetime movie for gay men. PS: judging is not loving....I just want to say that. :p
User Review - 8/10 by LM SThis film is a shining example of how to properly express a point of view in a way that everyone can understand and relate, rather than the traditional sledgehammer approach that we?re used to from the big Hollywood films. Mulligans deals with the issue of straight vs. gay, and how it affects the lives it touches. The film deftly shows the stark contrast between the forced bravado of the fast-paced college frat-boy lifestyle against the shameless and unapologetic honesty of the exploration of emotional needs and desires. Set against the stunning backdrop of Vancouver Island, the scenery works well to reflect the depth and tone of the subject matter. The lead character shows, for the most part, a confidence in his own sexuality that throws the seemingly ?normal? lives around him into turmoil. It forces others to examine their own beliefs and prejudices and decide for themselves whether a person?s sexual orientation is their defining characteristic, or just another facet of a complex and intriguing personality. This film is beautifully scripted to allow the viewer to take the journey with the character, so that when the question of sexuality comes up, it doesn?t feel like an issue of orientation so much as an exploration of how best to fulfill the basic emotional need that we all have for intimate human contact. A truly inspirational musical score that works both to drive the action and stretch the heartstrings as necessary is a welcome enhancement to the story. It?s rare to find a soundtrack so well suited to the mood of the film, the composer should be applauded for his work on this beautiful score. With its sensitive screenplay and superb acting, this film is definitely worth watching.
User Review - 8/10 by Jeff LI was surprised at how much I liked this film. Well written, handling a delicate subject matter with sensitivity.
User Review - 8/10 by Nina MSweet, smart coming out story, with a nice twist.
User Review - 8/10 by Alberto MThe characters were believable and not too overly exaggerated. The soundtrack, if you can call it that was trite and monotone. I thought the writing was good, but then again I just watched Push so anything would look good. The movie isn't for everyone, but I enjoyed it.
User Review - 6/10 by Keith Bgood production value for a gay movie. very emotional story line. Paul liked the confortation scene. the guy from logo's "bump" was ok.
