Molly was a promising composer and piano player when she was a girl, and now she is a twenty-three year-old insecure woman who feels stuck in her job. Among the costumers of the Emporium is the lonely hat collector, Eric Applebaum, who has only Molly and Mr. Magorium for friends. When the last pair of shoes that Mr. Magorium bought in Toscana is worn, he hires the accountant, Henry Weston to adjust the accounts of the Emporium. Furthermore, he claims that he is two hundred and forty-three years old and his time to go has come; he gives a block of wood called Congreve cube to Molly and asks Henry to transfer the Emporium to her name. Molly tries to convince Mr. Magorium to stay in his magical toy store instead of "going".

Movie Reviews

MSNBC - 10/10 by Alonso DuraldeThe trailers make the movie look like the ickiest kind of whimsy, accompanied by obstreperous special effects, but the film itself is gasp-worthy.
Detroit News - 9/10 by Tom LongMr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium should delight audiences in the mood for holiday magic.
Los Angeles CityBeat - 9/10 by Andy Klein... never quite as magical as it wants to be.
ColeSmithey.com - 9/10 by Cole SmitheyVisually colorful but dramatically empty, "Mr. Magorium's Emporium" is too listless for words.
Beliefnet - 9/10 by Nell MinowWhat could have been a charmingly whimsical children's book becomes an arch and sugary movie, its failures of tone and timing hitting its lightweight storyline like a blast of cold air on a fragile souffle. This is one flat souffle.
Los Angeles Daily News - 8/10 by Nathaniel BellMr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium is the kind of warm, mushy, predigested pap that haunts theaters every year around this time, and it nearly pulls a muscle trying to arouse a sense of wonder.
Detroit Free Press - 8/10 by Terry LawsonWith fine performances from Hoffman, Portman, Bateman and the sad-eyed Mills, and some ever-true observations about imagination and possibilities, Mr. Magorium is likely to work his magic given a chance.
Denver Post - 8/10 by Lisa KennedyMr. Magorium is festive, to be sure. But it doesn't have the rhythm of an instant family classic.
Flick Filosopher - 8/10 by MaryAnn JohansonIts straightforward simplicity aims it squarely at the kiddies and the kiddies alone, but that's okay -- few films intended for children these days are this gentle, this plainly decent.
PopMatters - 8/10 by Bill GibronMr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium is a lighthearted and less noxious Night at the Museum.
