We Got This CoveredMatt DonatoMost Likely To Die evokes all the regrettable moments of high school slashers, and none of the fun.
Under the RadarZach HollwedelWe don't like these characters. We don't connect with them. And we don't give a darn if any of them live ... the sooner they die, the sooner we arrive at the mercy of the end credits.
User ReviewJustin JYou know what? This is just a plain ol' generic slasher but for what it is, I actually enjoyed it. Sort of. I mean, while doing other things lol.
User ReviewKris GPerhaps best taken in during a horror movie night with a bunch of jeering friends, Most Likely To Die works best when it's mostly unintentional humor has it's audience create their own laughter at the films expense. This comes from the ultra cheesy villain in graduation garb complete with a lethal, Kung Lao styled mortarboard. It also comes from some very inconsistent reactions when the group start turning up dead. Initially, the surprise on display is little more than how you'd react to recieving 7 McNuggets instead of 6. Not until about 3 or so have bit the dust does the group really start acting like there's a crisis going on. The kills themselves are nothing original but props to the special effects team. The red stuff looks good. Most Likely To Die teases a few swerves but a clue revealing the killer can be picked up very early on in the film. It also teases a sequel with the ending. Am I excited about that? No, but if, or when it arrives on Netflix I'll probably watch it when the cheeseball horror craving strikes.
User ReviewDavid LTo its credit, this is a rare attempt nowadays at reinventing the teen slasher genre again, after we were inundated during the 90's. It's an ideal setting and concept where a group of teenagers go to a reunion following there graduation ten years earlier. Bugged by the death of one of their former classmates who killed himself following their constant bullying, each of the individuals now fear someone is out to get revenge for this deed, killing people in association with what they were most likely to become when they left school. Unfortunately, despite the good intro and gradual character familiarisation, the clever death scenes soon turn into a random blood fest with bodies just turning up in any old fashion, and not necessarily what they were destined most likely to be. It becomes very rushed midway through, and the killer is revealed quite early on as a result, with a somewhat anti-climatic ending to finish with. Starring Perez Hilton, the film automatically becomes more annoying as his screen time is far in access of what it should be for someone who can't act and has a very fake girls scream. However, similar to his relative Paris, in 'House of Wax', you just know he'll be in it to the end or die in a horrifically memorable way. Other than him, there were no other known faces, but for a low key horror this was more than tolerable on the whole. Of course it could have been so much better, as could any film with a bigger budget, more so because the majority of scenes appeared to be in the same few locations, but it was at least nice to see the return of one of my favourite genre's, and fingers crossed there will be more to follow.
User ReviewJordan MInteresting storyline with several climax moments, film was well acted.
User ReviewSteven JForgetabble But Enjoyable Vicious Mortarboard Action! I have actully watched this teen slasher a few times and forget it almost every time, but at the same time I have almost always enjoyed it and felt that it didn't get too stale or any of the deaths weren't more than satifying (from the oddjob hat throw, to the 'throat' one) it was certainly hillarious. I get the impression this horror is trying to go back to roots and takes a lot of inspirtation from the Scream films but not as acclaimed (irnoically though I prefer this to the Screams). Heather Morris is plesant and pretty in the lead role and Perez Hilton is so bad he is watachable too and you will probably be wondering how he meets his gruesome end. All in all if you need a good background film without too much thought then this one is for you, the ending even leaves room for a sequel although I wouldn't hold your breath for that Pro Neg + Some Death Scenes Really Cool - Felt Back Story Little Too Much For Some Characters + Setting Of Place Was Nice - Cliche + Perez Hilton - Perez Hilton
User ReviewWill L'Most Likely to Die' is a completely bland and generic slasher film, going through the motions and checking off every box, but it is competently made. Also, if features a surprisingly strong performance from Perez Hilton, which is almost worth watching in and of itself.
User ReviewJaime HFeeling dismally old-school right down to it's moody open credit scene rife with foreshadowing. It's a fine distraction, but a distraction that's pretty easy to be distracted from.
User ReviewJesse OI don't think I would be wrong in saying that this feels either like a SyFy or Chiller original movie. And, really, both TV stations are owned by NBCUniversal, so they may as well be the same channel. Both specialize on a very particular genre that doesn't necessarily appeal to a more mainstream crowd. But that's neither here nor there and it's really irrelevant to the review. The point is that this just comes across like one of the original movies from either channel. Though, if I'm being honest, and I'm not the type of person who sits around watching SyFy or Chiller original movies, and I really mean original, not movies that are already made that they buy the rights to have limited screening for before they show it on their channel. But this movie, in all honesty, wasn't as bad as it looked on the trailers. Not that I'm saying that this was good or anything, but it's a campy little slasher if you're looking for a campy slasher. Is it a particularly well-made movie? I mean no, but it is competent and, at the very least, serviceable. It's obviously, in spite of its clever title, which is the only clever thing about it, a very formulaic slasher film. As formulaic a slasher film as they come in all honesty. The acting isn't anything to write home about, but it's not embarrassingly awful either, at least not to me. But, taking everything into consideration, I feel that this should have been worse than what it actually was. Maybe this is an awful movie, I could have just been in a great mood yesterday and that helped me not dislike this as much as I could have on a shittier day. But, again, this is a movie that does not pretend to be more than what it is. That's not suggesting that it gives them an excuse to be a shitty movie, but it's suggesting that we also should not go in expecting this to be a masterpiece. That much should be obvious, if you were expecting it to be a masterpiece then you really don't know much about horror. And that comes across like a defeatist attitude, but this is the way that it is and there's nothing wrong with that. Again, not every movie can be great and others just do what they can. One of the elements I did like, even though it plays into all the stereotypes, is the fact that these people's past is coming back to bite them in the ass. This is a common theme in slashers, but I like how it's done here. It just feels more powerful. That might be a wrong word to use, but there's like a strong connection between the bullying that they put John Dougherty through and the effect that had on the rest of his life leading up to his suicide. It's even more relevant in this day and age, what with bullying and all that shit being so openly talked about. It's not like the film deals with this subject sensitively, but, again, I liked how it dealt with its characters and their actions in high school. People, in general, say so much shit without ever really thinking of the consequences, so it's interesting that the movie deals with that. Like I said, it's a common theme in slashers, but I liked how it's dealt with here. I can't really say much else about this movie. It's not like I'd ever say this was good, but it's watchable at the very least and it might be a lot of fun to watch with a group of friends. This was enjoyable in a campy way, even if I'd say it was, looking at things realistically, a below average movie.
