User ReviewChris MWhen I popped in Mortuary, I was only expecting a hopefully entertaining 80's genre movie. Pretty soon, I found myself engrossed by the story and characters on display. Some of the thoughts that crossed my mind were: Who really killed the lead's father? What's up with her aloof mom? Is that Bill Paxton? Wow, Christopher George is awesome! Hot damn, that killer is TERRIFYING! Mortuary is a spooky soap opera on acid. The performances are solid and the killer's disguise is genuinely creepy. There's a few good scares, a few twists, and a really cool ending. The music score is also pretty moody and memorable. It's a must for 80's slasher fans and fans of Christopher and Linda Gay George as well as Bill Paxton who gives a pretty good early performance. It's worth checking out!
User ReviewDan HSo bad it's good! Paxton is truly creepy!
User ReviewSimon MBill Paxton in a slasher film....What more do you need to know?
User Reviewangel mAn interesting role for Bill Paxton. All of the deaths in the movie are very funny, as well as the acting and the over all quality. Worth watching for the hilarious ending.
User ReviewSean NI love it when you watch something semi-obscure only to discover a young Bill Paxton popping up, skipping around and slightly slurring his speech. But enough about drinking and driving with Keifer Sutherland.
User ReviewBrad WCreepy early Bill Paxton role. Does almost as much for necro-love as a full season of CSI. (Seriously, only beautiful people die in LV?) Notable also for Walton's family member Mary McDonough's nude scenes. Otherwise, not as far out as an Italian thriller, but for 80's US could count as slightly pushing the envelope.
User ReviewJohn JPaxton's great in this mediocre horror. As a side note, someone in film school remade the final scene of this for his short film, and when I called him on it, even stating that I saw the VHS of Morturary in his apartment he still denied it. Actually, that's not a very interesting aside, sorry.
User ReviewDavid DLove this one! You'll probably never see Bill Paxton in another psycho killer role like this one again!
User ReviewKeith AI loved this as a child but I'll admit it's pretty campy
User ReviewAl MMortuary is a forgotten but fun slasher film that features a very young Bill Paxton and Christopher George, who is probably most famous for starring in Lucio Fulci's The City of the Living Dead (aka The Gates of Hell). As cheesy as possible and a little boring at times, Mortuary still delivers plenty of laughs, brutal deaths, and a silly yet creepy killer. Not a great film by any stretch of the term but one that will probably delight slasher fans if they can find a copy of it.
