The New York TimesBen KenigsbergMortal isn’t really a movie proper as it is ponderous scene-setting for a potential sequel.
RogerEbert.comOdie HendersonAll you need to know is that this slow-moving, sci-fi origin story was made by Norwegian co-writer/director André Øvredal, the man who previously gave us the far more entertaining “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.”
The A.V. ClubMike D'AngeloDirector and cowriter André Øvredal (Trollhunter, The Autopsy Of Jane Doe) gets credit here for “original story,” but every single element has been borrowed, and precious little else of note about Mortal remains.
Austin ChronicleMarc SavlovMortal plods along for most of its running time with the occasional helicopter chase scene and plenty of CGI fulminology: But ultimately Ovredal’s not-so-deep-dive into Norwegian mythos is a too-obvious let down.
VarietyGuy LodgeWhat surprises Mortal holds largely relate to the oddity of its construction and its tonal whiplash, as a thin, repetitive narrative skips from emo “Twilight” moping to dour Scandi-noir procedural to dollar-store Marvel ripoff.
User ReviewAlex0156One of the best movies I've seen in years! Very different from a Hollywood movie!
User ReviewJayTLoved every second of it. Hope we get a sequel. Nat and Iben's performance was excellent.
User ReviewJonesie1395Solid movie. Loved troll hunter so I wanted to see the directors latest entry. Cool twist on the superhero genre.
User ReviewSpud1989Didn't know much about plot so was very pleasantly surprised. Beautiful cinematography, great acting and good sparse special effects. The story is very good and carries the viewer along to a very unexpected ending. Hope this gets a sequel but don't think they were going for that route.
User ReviewJaja49Love nat wolf and thought this movie was satisfying. Not worth a ten.
