| User ReviewTracey cIn this complicated police film, a police detective, who still grieves for the child he accidentally shot during a gun fight, finds distraction when a streetwalker approaches him and asks him to help her get out of the dark world in which she is hopelessly mired. Soon the cop finds himself involved with extortion, drugs and a serial killer. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi In this complicated police film, a police detective, who still grieves for the child he accidentally shot during a gun fight, finds distraction when a streetwalker approaches him and asks him to help her get out of the dark world in which she is hopelessly mired. | User ReviewParis FA surprisingly good drama, made special by the quirky, warm character played by Armin Mueller-Stahl who is alternately grouchy, funny, and tough, but never without a realistic appreciation of those around him. Morgan Fairchild does a good job as a streetwalker with the sense to try to get out of the racket; Frank Stallone's very scary. Julia Kent is the perfect female counterpart and foil to Mueller-Stahl, and Michael York does a credible job as a pol. |
| User ReviewLarry YMidnight Cop is one of the most bizarre and tonally muddled films I've seen recently. The movie is supposed to be a cliche'd story about a down on his luck detective solving a series of crimes and coming out of it a better and richer person in the end, or something, but the way that it's executed is alarmingly strange. I do get the sense that the world that the movie is supposed to take place in is the future, and it definitely has a bit of a Blade Runner feel to it, especially considering some of the lighting choices and set design. Maybe that's just me though. The acting, editing, dubbing and writing is just head-scratching most of the time and you'll find yourself laughing at it and enjoying it because it's not very good. For that, I give it a recommendation. I haven't really seen a movie like it, and I doubt I'll see another one to compare. |
