Movie Reviews

BrianOrndorf.com - 9/10 by Brian OrndorfBlessed with a promising concept for a dark comedy, "Meet Monica Velour" would rather tug heartstrings or script repetitive behavior from derivative characters.
Metro Times (Detroit, MI) - 7/10 by Corey HallI could have lived a thousand life times blissfully unaware of what Brian Dennehy's flabby ass cheeks look like, but these are the occupational risks.
Long Island Press - 7/10 by Prairie MillerKim Cattrall takes on older female sexuality on screen, in her provocative as usual new role as a struggling single mom and sex worker, in this self-described male feminist directed movie. And playing female degradation raw, with surprising dignity.
Metromix.com - 6/10 by Geoff BerkshireBearden has a good concept here, and an eagerness to tackle gender and age stereotypes, but his indie-by-the-numbers story disappoints.
Entertainment Weekly - 6/10 by Owen GleibermanThe role of a former star of the "golden age" of porn sounds perfect for Kim Cattrall, and she handles it nicely - at least, in the rare moments when this indie comedy isn't terminally contrived.
Shadows on the Wall - 6/10 by Rich ClineThere's a scruffy, honest charm to this film that keeps us involved, even though the rough edges are ultimately worn down by what seems like an over-developed script. But a strong central performance wins us over.
ViewLondon - 6/10 by Matthew TurnerEnjoyable coming-of-age comedy drama with an engagingly off-beat script, some appealing production design and two terrific central performances from Kim Cattrall and Dustin Ingram.
Empire Magazine - 6/10 by Philip WildingBeautifully acted, it's a tender love story with one or two belly laughs.
Hollywood Reporter - 6/10 by Frank ScheckThe effectively deglamorized Cattrall is terrific, investing her portrayal with a complex mixture of vulnerability, toughness and still-powerful sexuality.
New York Post - 6/10 by Lou LumenickWriter-director Keith Bearden was also smart enough to round up a couple of other old pros: Brian Dennehy, as the hero's eccentric grandfather, and Keith David, as a wise collector of pop-culture artifacts.
