User ReviewJosef HAs per usual, unless you are a fan of truly deviant cinema, DO NOT WATCH MASKHEAD!. The film follows somewhat in the line of Toe Tag Picture's more recent releases (The Red Sin Tower and Sella Turcica) because it features somewhat of a conventional plot, but it also a0 throwback to their August Underground films in that it often features a cinema verite style as its killers film the murders of their victims. Maskhead is actually a somewhat clever (and completely brutal/disgusting) satire of the porn industry as it follows a lesbian couple and their "friends" who run a "model agency" (a pornography production company) that uses its actress/actor recruiting front as a means to lure victims for snuff films. The victims often initially engage in producing fetishistic porn videos (food fetishes, clown fetishes, etc.), before turning into murder scenes. Maskhead features the typical terrible acting and production values of Toe Tag Pictures' previous films, and it blends humor and brutality in a way that makes us cringe, laugh, and question why the hell we watch such dehumanizing garbage.....
User ReviewBrian CEnjoyable entry in the line of awesomeness that is Fred Vogel. This movie sees a couple of amateur porn filmmakers tricking people and killing them gruesomely with the ever present Maskhead. While the story has been used before, it does seems fresh. Vogel relies on practical special effects which for the most part, were very good. Acting was suspect at times, but other times it was quite well done. It did lack the rawness of earlier works like August Underground, but still is gritty and has some shocking scenes. All in all, quite good, and rather enjoyable.
User ReviewAngus MThis fairly recent Toe Tag film directed by Fred Vogel, is actually pretty decent. Much more of a story than their usual productions (August Underground, Mordum), this one features a lesbian couple that interview victims for fetish and very gruesome movies, and then dispatch them in extremely brutal and graphically gory ways, via MASKHEAD, a disfigured maniac who likes to chop up his victims after torturing them. The movie plays with time, and you have to pay attention to figure out what the hell is going in, but in just about everyway, it delivers the goods, even though it can be a little confusing. I enjoyed it, it's borderline soft core, along with the extreme gore. It's definitely Toe Tags best film by far.
User ReviewTonya VMaskhead is the story of two lesbo model scouters/porn directors who enlist all kinds of "actors" and "actresses" for their fetish porn films. Little do these people know, the lesbos incorporate another actor into the film, known as Maskhead, a hulking menace that proceeds to rip every single one of them to shreds during each film. There's the general plot of the movie, but there is definitely a lot more going on as filmmakers Scott Swan and Fred Vogel (who brought us the notorious August Underground trilogy, a set of films so vile and disgusting that only the elite of horror fans know of and have seen) venture into the ultra-sleazy. Given the film's subject matter, it certainly delivers on heinous acts of violence and sexuality. You can expect ample amounts of gore, but surprisingly little nudity (though it does pick up a bit in the last 15 minutes of the film) as everything is left up to suggestion and letting the viewer use their imagination, which is effective, but when in you invest in this kind of film, we pretty much expect it to be hand-delivered to us. Between all of the mountains upon mountains of built up shock value, the coup de grace is the climactic ending which incorporates a death so over the top, bloody, and somewhat nauseating, it actually makes up for the hour of ho-hum, by-the-books torture movie. Now, granted, I say things like ho-hum and by-the-books, but after witnessing films like Martyrs, Gutterballs, and (ESPECIALLY) Hanger, Maskhead doesn't seem to phase me all that much (save for the ending). Those unfamiliar with the aforementioned films (as well as the August Underground ones) will definitely be in for a surprise if you somehow are able to track this film down and watch it.
