User ReviewVassilis KAn interesting documentary of the time. Incredible to see the left overs of the Family been interviewed candidly.
User ReviewAntoinette Ltrippy & insightful..some weird horse & kid on acid shots..sad, beautiful, haunting music by 2 guys who left the "family."
User ReviewRC M"I wish they all could be California Giiiiirrlls!" YIKES!
User ReviewNigel MSimply the best documentary on Charlie and his 'family'. I particularly liked the bit where it tells of their plan to kidnap Frank Sinattra, cut his skin off and make it into purses to be sold in shops (while making him listen to his own music!). It gives you an idea of how twisted and dangerous (yet creative!) these people were.
User ReviewVincent HThe best documentary ever made on Charles Manson & his Family, comprised almost entirely of footage & interviews with Family members at their desert ranch during the time of the Manson trial. Also features detailed interviews & some amazing music by ex-followers Paul Watkins and Brooks Poston. Eerily enough, co-director Laurence Merrick was later shot to death in an allegedly unrelated robbery at his studio.
User ReviewJonny BThe most frightening documentary I have ever seen.
User ReviewJennifer DAm currently researching the plus' and minuses of community living and came across this chilling documentary of the manson family from 1973...an incredible movie but not a good advert for community living
User ReviewKevin MAs the flower child movement of the late '60s began to fade, many free-loving youngsters sought worry-free refuge within social communes. Charles Manson, using a dangerous mixture of intoxicants and clever manipulation, invoked the potential to create his own 'Family' circle. By raiding restaurant and grocery store dumpsters, they ate like lower-class kings and queens. From his feel-good doctrines and seductive music, Manson's followers took on his twisted personality. Just like a sadistic tribe, Manson issued orders to his followers (male and female) to pillage, maim, torture, and terrify the Californian middle-to-upper class. This documentary chronicles the events leading up to, and following, the Tate and La Bianca murders - even taking first-hand testimony from various pivotal members of the Manson Family. His prostitution ring enabled the Family to take on new followers, gradually birthing children and raising them in Charlie's image. By following the Family in their everyday routine, we catch a lengthy glimpse of America's most controversial cult leader.
User ReviewMichael WOscar-nominated documentary of Charles Manson and The Family shortly after the Tate/LaBianca murders with footage and interviews of Manson's inner circle. Disturbing. Total wackos whose death sentences were all commuted to life by a Supreme Court ruling. "Squeaky" would later go to jail for attempting to assassinate President Ford.
User ReviewPeter KRivetting and repulsive in equal measure.
