ColeSmithey.comCole SmitheyA clever concept indie with old timey zip.
San Francisco ChronicleMick LaSalleSharp and irresistible, and there's no other movie like it.
Rolling StonePeter TraversA kind of homage to that more simple and elegant time.
Film.comElizabeth WeitzmanFunny dialogue, crisp black-and-white cinematography, and a well-chosen cast of mostly stage-trained actors raise this eccentric fantasy a notch above the ordinary.
L.A. WeeklyStefan ThielThough the story is often silly to the point of ridiculous, its goofy tone and charming characters, especially Frazier's Johnny, create a lovely idealization of a long-gone era.
TV Guide MagazineKen FoxMimics the kind of comedy that doesn't date particularly well to begin with.

User ReviewJohanna AThis entry has no place- no category, no proper place to go. I figured I'd put it under shadowy figures for kicks... Just curious though, why is it that no one EVER EVER UPDATES THEIR JOURNALS OR RETURNS THEIR FRIGGIN PHONE CALLS OR EMAILS?? (Achoo, Full Sail Financial Aid, achoo!) Ok, now that that is over... I'd like to say that I've been thinking about a few movies tonight, namely Man of the Century and State and Main. Thats about it. Stressed and very tired, and tomorrow is IT, tomorrow and then I'm into 35! Yess! Quote: "You can tell your Mister Pitt to go suck a lemon."- Johnny, Man of the Century Lyric: "You must have to act your age, or wind up inside a cage, back in Nagasak..."- Nagasaki, Bobby Short. Song of the Day: Mississippi Mud, Lester Lanin & His Orchestra Adios all!
