Sixty-year-old Ignazio and his wife Angela, his former maid live in a luxurious villa. A young archaeologist Lance arrives there with his fifteen-year-old son Jimmy at the invitation of the superintendent of Fine Arts for an excavation of a tomb. Angela, who now sleeps separated from her husband finds a rose and a rather explicit note from someone. At first Angela suspects Lance, then becomes convinced that the author of the letters, in which the fiery suitor threatens to hurt himself and even kill himself, is Jimmy. The story continues, as well as the misunderstandings, until Ignazio, convinced by Jimmy decides to steal some precious objects from the sepulcher finally discovered, but remains blocked by an explosion caused by the diabolical boy. The opportunity has come to give life to the long-awaited hopes: but when entering her room, Jimmy lacks of courage. So she consoles herself with the father. But the arrival of the guests and the carousel of events, as well as the abandonment of Ignazio by the young secretary-lover, shook the tedious routine of the mature couple, who, in taking leave of the guests, seems to have found the agreement of a time.
