The trade papers have announced that impresario George Emerson's latest show, which highlights a novelty dance number by its star Hal Le Roy as the centerpiece, is in rehearsal and will open in four weeks. Rival impresario Max Brock is incensed as he long asked Freddie McGuire to write a show to star Le Roy. Brock thus blames McGuire for this setback. As such, Brock demands that McGuire find out through his supposed friendship with Emerson what the nature of that novelty dance number is, and not steal but rather borrow it for a show Brock will open in three weeks. McGuire is not only unable to get into the rehearsals, but is unable even to meet with Emerson. McGuire thus uses the opportunity to repitch an idea that he long came up with and has been sitting neglected on Brock's desk, Brock who probably never even seriously looked at it.
