Movie Reviews

Trespass - 8/10 by Glenn DunksThis unofficial sequel to Not Quite Hollywood isn't as enjoyable as that title, its selection of films is less varied and less passionately produced, but it is still a wild and hysterical time at the movies.
CraveOnline - 8/10 by Todd Gilchristas engaging as it frequently is, Hartley's latest offers only a tourist's-eye view of its subject matter, crafting a unique, interesting documentary that fails to feel truly immersive.
User Review - 10/10 by Spookie MThis is an amazing documentary that is informative and really funny.
User Review - 10/10 by Ricardo CThere is a ton of history about filming in the Philipinnes that I've never heard before.
User Review - 10/10 by Nicole MSolid doc, entirely entertaining and absolutely fascinating.
User Review - 8/10 by Jesse BNot Quite Hollywood was a lot better and more interesting, this felt a little too similar in style but offered a fun, gratuitous time. It did open up a whole new area of cinema for me, one that I didn't know existed. If you liked Not Quite Hollywood, you'll like this as well.
User Review - 8/10 by Sanjid PAnother excellent documentary. I was prepared with a pen & paper to write down all the titles of those awesome unseen films and already added plenty of them in my want-to-see list. Oh, sooo many more movies to watch! I wish I could have them all in a box set.
User Review - 8/10 by Mike BThis was a hoot! Worth the the flashback.
User Review - 8/10 by Tim Msounds like a pretty cool time in exploitation history
User Review - 8/10 by Scott CReally fun & informative documentary detailing a branch of the profitable 1970s exploitation market and the pros and cons of filming in the Philippines. These are the locations that spawned the popular women in prison (WIP) genre including Big Doll House, Women in Cages and Big Bird Cage and talks with the actors, directors, and crew about their experiences. John Landis offers the most hilariously glib observations and we also hear from Sid Haig, Joe Dante, and the low-budget producer extraordinaire himself Roger Corman. The films were profitable in part because they were so cheap, cutting corners by having dangerous stunts performed by untrained actors, primitive living and working conditions, and borrowing the Filipino army for big action scenes! Favorite title: Jeanie Bell starred as the black ass-kicking heroine in TNT Jackson, so following its success what do you call a film starring a white ass-kicking heroine? Firecracker!
