Determined to continue where his friend left off, freckled peasant anarchist Tunin arrives in Rome intending to assassinate Benito Mussolini. Under those circumstances, the resolute idealist will be welcome in the town's first-rate brothel as the cousin of his contact, devoted revolutionary Salomè, who works there as a prostitute. | User ReviewRichard SIt is amazing that this film (and also as the film Swept Away(not with madonna)) is made by woman. It speaks not only about what woman want, but also touches upon the theme of anarchy. This is a very perfect combination of themes. In addition Giancarlo Giannini has perfect interplay with Monica Vitti. Movie to see. |
| User ReviewPrivate UThis film has one of the most strangest, yet likable protagonists I have seen in a while. It's unfortunate that in the last 10 minutes he totally snaps. I wish he would have just realized that he would be "one more person dead." But then, of course, we wouldn't have a tragedy, would we. The film makes interesting statements about personal ideologies, and in the final frames, tends to mock them. Giannini, however, is brilliant. |

Switching between farce and poignancy, the film asserts that an individual's need for self-determination may in fact supersede the passionate politics calling for the collective need for a better society. |

Oppression leads to retaliation, but even the final act of murder is rendered meaningless. A damning and emotional tragicomedy. |
