Daily Film FixJonathan W. HickmanThe film is absolutely gorgeous, featuring an amazing collection of high resolution footage working in tandem with Bridges' rich narration. Not preachy, this didactic narrative does serve as a low key prayer for universal support for conservation.
Los Angeles TimesKatie WalshWhile the outlook often seems bleak, the message is to take the future into our own hands — to change our behavior and change the world.
Capital Times (Madison, WI)Rob Thomas"Living in the Future's Past" coalesces around an earnest and resonant message, especially as Bridges' gravelly voice urges us to do more than just "scratch the guilt itch" and make sustainable changes that feel authentic to our lives.
L.A. WeeklySerena DonadoniDirector Susan Kucera and the film’s guiding spirit, Jeff Bridges, have created a wonkish lovefest, incorporating the diverse ideas of (predominantly white) scientists and academics, philosophers and authors, activists and politicians into a plea for equable reflection and sustained action.
Film ThreatHanna BLiving in the Future’s Past is quite conventional and presumably something we’ve already seen before, but it never hurts, especially as we are reaching the point of no return.
User ReviewHenry JThis is a great doc. Wonderful mesmerizing photography and thought provoking content. I wasn't aware before this movie how much we are intwined in the carbon economy and how much our way of life is dependent on it. This is a must view for all people who want to understand what is going on in our world today as it relates to climate change. It is also an eye opener in terms of why we have a hard time changing our ways using evolutionary biology to illuminate this issue. Highly recommended.
User ReviewChase FThis film completely reframes the narrative of the typical 'environmental documentary', instead focusing on the behavior, trends, and impact of humanity from a psychological and ethical perspective. It is truly groundbreaking to capture such a diverse array of thought leaders and scientists in one film - offering disprate yet completmentary perspectives on why we find ourselves in this current state of uncertainty and how we can all engage - do our part for positive change. From the incredible visuals, score, and narrative journey... Filmmaker Susan Kucera does a brilliant job for nimbly transcending the doc-status-quo, opting instead for a more intellectually challenging and inspiring course for this remarkable film.
