For a moment, it seemed that Maoism had become the leading movement of the generation in Finland, as happened in Norway and largely in Sweden. The Maoists of Finland were critical of the Soviet Union, opposed the occupation of Czechoslovakia and were among the first to speak of Finnishization. They opposed Kekkonen's supremacy and his re-election by way of exception.
