User Review - 10/10 by Private USimply put, the greatest martial arts film ever. A life-altering, mesmerizing experience which amazes me to this very day. Completely re-invented the way martial arts films were made; for a mere budget of 500k, Donnie Yen almost completely eliminated the ill effects of undercranking (shooting a scene at something like 18 fps and playing it through at 22 fps) while still retaining lightning fast speed. See this movie right fucking now.

User Review - 8/10 by Derek LAs usual, Donnie Yen excels in the fight sequences. I feel that Wong Chi Wah was not suitable for his role as his background was too comedic. The fighting scene with the eagle claw is my all tome favourite fight scene. Bruce Lee vs Chuck Norris may be more authentic in the martial art sense but movie kungfu is vastly different from real kungfu. Lastly, Carmen Lee was lovely, it's a pity we don't see her on screen anymore.

Donnie Yen does a fine job as director and his fight scenes may have been a bit different for the time but a ton of people have stolen the style. (Specifically american martial arts movies) I'm not a big fan of Choppy, kinetic-you can't see what 's going on- zoom in fight scenes but compared to today's standards it's actually quite minimal here. In fact there's a nice mix of it with slow mo. Plus Donnie deserves credit for trying to be original and pushing boundaries.
