To do so, in 1972, a bold project began, involving the creation of an artificial lake from the massive body of water of the great Mornos River, leading, however, to the desertion of the small Velouchovo village, and another unforeseen disaster. As the building of the dam was almost complete, the Greek Archaeological Service was forced to take action to prevent the destruction of the ancient town of Kallio--an unexpected treasure buried deep in the area's ground--triggering a desperate race against the clock to salvage the rare findings. Unfortunately, the rescue mission didn't bear fruit, as the river flooded the excavation site, the village, and the ancient city, depositing a thick stratum of sediment known as the "layer of destruction". This is a step-by-step, two-year chronicle of the team's efforts to preserve centuries of history. Will we ever unearth the secrets beneath the bottom of the lake?
