Two talented but struggling musicians live in a Bavarian village. Toni writes the music and Edi the lyrics. They make a demo disk, then get work as stagehands in a big-city theatre. They get to perform one of their songs, but leave in despondency and work in a crummy circus. Meanwhile, Toni's delectable girlfriend Elsie is getting lonely back home, and the vivacious Hungarian girl Rosi who works at the theatre seems to be winning his affection.
