Leave your thoughts about Lamerica.
NewsweekDavid AnsenIt's built on deceit but evolves into something more complex--a shared yearning that links the Italian past to the Italian present. Amelio's eloquent but unsentimental humanism asks us to reconsider our relationship to the wretched of the earth.
User ReviewWill GHeart-wrenching. Showcase the tragic consequences of an internationalized American Dream.
User ReviewHeidi FUnderstated and powerful, Lamerica tells a story of hope and exploitation in post-communist Albania. Though the movie seems almost documentary in style, I was moved; I was riveted to the screen. Even 12 years later, this movie stands out as one of the best I've ever seen.
User ReviewJ BEvery person should see this movie to truly understand humanity and human needs.
User ReviewSara Cprobably the most heartbreaking film I have ever seen.
User ReviewVivek CA thoughtful, haunting film. It changes the way you see what you have and what you want.
User ReviewBrandon KVery unpleasant to watch but it's very real and moving.
User ReviewJoakim RFantatisk, bildskön, känslosam, episk. Fullt betyg!
User ReviewHenrik Nthe exploiter becomes the exploited. beautifull.
User ReviewAndrea CLamerica is a prime example of the kind of slow-paced drama we have come to expect from Amelio. After Il ladro di bambini, Amelio shifted his focus from an internal examination of Italian bureaucracy to the Albanian crisis. Amelio cleverly links the Albanian experience in the early 1990s with that of the Southern Italian population during World War II not only through the theme of emigration, but also through the character of the displaced Italian that the politically naïve Gino seeks to manipulate. The Italy of Lamerica is both a predatory one, but one which ultimately represents a land of hope (or America) to the post-Communist Albanian population
