| User ReviewReal GLola Falana is dead on in this 1975 Blaxploitation film. Her humor, her sass, her desperation, her emotion, actions, everything is absolutely brilliant. If you can get past the rough sound spots through some of the film, this film is very smooth. As with Black Godfather, this film has very little graphic violence or overt sexuality for that matter, but it is still a fine example of linear storytelling. There is a moment around the midpoint where it seems the film is not going to pull it off, but Cocoa appears on the screen again and everything is fine. Gene Washington is an excellent compliment to Lola's character, their chemistry is evident from the get go. There are of course faults with this movie; some parts are kind of predictable and the twist at the end is somewhat tacky, but otherwise a good good film. |
| User ReviewKeenan SWhile the witness protection plot isn't particularly original, Lady Cocoa is a fun film, mostly due to the wonderful performance by the lead actress, Lola Falana who manages to deliver both humor and also have a genuine feel to her performance. She's a lot of fun to watch when she is on the screen because she is always interesting, though the rest of the cast aren't slackers. This as a whole is quite ridiculous, but it's the fun kind of ridiculous that you can roll with and have a really good time with since there is action, humor, sex, and solid performances. |
