Hindustan Times - 8/10 by Mihir FadnavisAvinash Arun's incredible debut film explores unusual themes delicately and expertly -- the frustration of not belonging, the search for home, the weight of loss, the frustrations of single-parenting.
The Times of India - 8/10 by Mihir BhanageKilla is one of the best films to have hit screens this year.

User Review - 8/10 by Amit RAvinash Arun's Killa is one of the most beautifully shot movie without any indulgences. Sometimes feel like inspired from Abbas Kiarostami visual technique of long shots that let the beauty of the landscape do the magic. Not a single frame tries to artistically adventurous but stays true to larger theme of storytelling - a clear outcome of director who doubling as a cinematographer for this. This can be our own "Catcher in the rye" - it is a classic in its own right. Sound of incessant rain accompanies you in the entire movie. Widowed mother played by Amrita Subhash and Chinmay as Archit were very natural - movie has so many moments - the math paper - that takes you back to your own childhood memory, bandya'a quips -who would bring smiles whenever he comes in, the dog sequence, the poetry recitation on motherhood. As you watch the movie and enjoy - somewhere you wonder where it's going- and in last 3rd you hit upon the main theme when archit realizes "his friends do care about him" - it about universal theme of friendship interrupted and restored. Zoomed-out shots and background score are aces and tele port you to the land of konkan and spirit of the time and people you lived through 80s and early 90s without saying so. This could have been notable Oscars entry .. But court is no less..
User Review - 8/10 by Lokesh DHaving spent a significant part of my childhood in a Marathi-speaking village, I could totally relate to the nostalgia it creates around us, right from the first sequence. Do give it a watch, for the sake of an autobiographical account of your own childhood. Fanboy moment : Coincidentally, just a week after watching the movie, I got to briefly (and awkwardly) meet the director Avinash Arun and thank him for the movie. :D
User Review - 8/10 by Tanvir MLovely story of growing up in a small town in India. An eleven year old moves to the countryside with his mother after his father passes away. Glimpses of the small town life, including the friendships which are made and broken in school brought back my own memories of a nomadic childhood in rural Bangladesh. Deservedly won National Award for best Marathi film and went on to win at the Berlin Film Festival. Loved the movie posters as well!
