Movie Reviews

Oregonian - 9/10 by Shawn LevyAs it stands, this is little more than a sketchy portrait of two fascinating cultural moments with only geography and 70-ish minutes of celluloid connecting them.
BBC.com - 6/10 by Tom DawsonWritten, photographed, produced, edited, and directed by 26-year-old visual artist S A Crary, Kill Your Idols enjoyably documents the so-called No Wave scene.
Empire Magazine - 6/10 by Dorian LynskeyOstensibly about the ultra-obscure New York art-punk scene of 1977-82, this cleverly edited film is really a meditation on originality and nostalgia.
Slant Magazine - 6/10 by Ed GonzalezThe film's construction isn't groundbreaking but the shrill freakshow of talking heads is revealing, conveying how revolutionary spirits can spread their own form of oppressive bile.
New York Post - 6/10 by Lou LumenickAs Lydia Lunch of Teenage Jesus & the Jerks puts it, "They seem so desperate to be liked, desperate to have their music used in the next car commercial."
Film Journal International - 5/10 by Chris BarsantiDiscordant documentary on New York's "No Wave" art-punk music scene begins in fertile territory but squanders everything with a lengthy and ill-considered comparison to more recent bands.
User Review - 10/10 by Jacob GIn bed sick and my 'shark week' just came to town so I'm pissed off and sick at the same/insane time. However just watched this film and enjoyed it..plus LL represents herself well. I've been a fan going back to teenage Jesus and Richard Kern.
