In an alternate universe, Superman is the son of Zod and was raised by a caring couple of Mexican immigrants living in harsh conditions, Batman is a young vampiric doctor, Kirk Langstrom, obsessed with an everlasting search for a cure for his disease and Wonder Woman is Bekka, the widowed queen of the world of Darkside. The three antiheroes unite and create the Justice League, despite wheelchair-bound Lex Luthor and others' protests. They operate often outside of the law and often kill the villains, but the US government tolerates them and works with them to an extent, since the three are willing to cooperate with the authorities and they never kill civilians. However, the all out paranoia and protests against their methods and untouchable position are growing. Things take a turn for the worse, when they are framed for a series of murders of famous scientists, who work for the government, and President Amanda Waller orders their arrest. They decide to violently resist arrest at all cost, until they can find the real culprits themselves.

Lyles' Movie FilesJeffrey LylesMarks yet another outstanding Bruce Timm production and a superior entry in the DC Entertainment catalog.
Common Sense MediaBrian CostelloEngaging noir tale is dark and violent; some cursing, nudity.
Groucho ReviewsPeter CanaveseAnother solid entry in the DCU line, Justice League: Gods and Monsters works best as an entrée into what should be a fascinating and highly entertaining series of its own. [Blu-ray/DVD]
Cinema CrazedFelix Vasquez Jr.A bold reworking and one I hope we can see more of in the future, just to hear Benjamin Bratt kick ass as Superman all over again.

User ReviewC MWow! Dark, disturbing alternate universe "superhero" movie that is definitely not for kids. Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman are all evil, calculating, violent arms of the federal government and not in the Bizarro way but something completely different. The Justice League is a sinister monument in the middle of the city. Eerie. This unholy alliance is tasked with solving a mystery when a number of key scientists are killed in spectacular ways. Not just any scientists but those that would have been Antman, Ironman and Dr. Freeze in the normal universe. I've always wondered in the back of my mind what would happen if a true superhero were to live amongst us. Would they want to dominate us? Shepherd us? Both scenarios are disturbing and this movie explores those options in dramatic and sometimes bloody detail. Lex Luthor said it best, "Unassailable power is never to be trusted." Dark, compelling, violent - highly recommended for those who'd like a different take on superheros.
User Reviewjosh sI did not expect to enjoy this film, since DC been making some mediocre films. A tale of the hero's we know and love in an alternate world where they choose darker decisions to save the world. It's great, a film that will entertain both the regular movie watcher and the hard core fan. I hope to see more films like Gods and Monsters in the future.
User ReviewKenton FIt's a great twist on classic archetypes that really push what we think we know about the said characters. A comic fan will recognize almost every character, even if they are very different from the original universe. If you have seen or read Flashpoint, this will feel similar, the only difference being the characters here are very new and you will not see any familiar heroes or villains. I would rate this as in my top 3 of DC animated films.
User ReviewDan WYet again DC strickes with a dark thrilling animated tale that offers a new perspective to justice legue showing torment between the themes of justice and evil. It is a well directed clear cut feature that entertains well and breaks the boundaries of animation with graphic fights it is most definitely the darkest film yet. It is also benefited by a great voice cast including Michael C Hall who I was surprised to hear in this but defiantly suits the role. I would most certainly give it 10/10.
