Ozus' World Movie ReviewsDennis SchwartzA faithful Casey adaptation, but one that's stagebound and lackluster.
CinePassionFernando F. CroceStatic medium shots keep the actors in full view, yet the film is as much of a visual experiment as Blackmail or Number Seventeen
EmanuelLevy.ComEmanuel LevyIt had nothing to do with cinema, Hitchcock himself had said of his adaptation of Sean O'Casey play, though it's well acted by Sara Allgood and the rest of the ensemble
User ReviewJuno S5 stars for having m name in it and having pay cock in it XD rofl
User ReviewMark KReally difficult to watch because any copy you get will have sub-standard sound and visual quality. Still, a great early Hitchcock film.
User ReviewCourtney THitchcock always did seem to want to treat film the same as stage, yet this is the most extreme example. It's good but lack some of the creative stage as film technique found in Rope and the openness with sets that helps carry Dial M for Murder.
User ReviewChris WThis is an interesting adaptation of the Sean O'Casey stage classic. Kudos to Hitchcock for attempting to direct a version of this ambitious theatrical work so early in his career, but it does fall flat in places. Overall though, its a solid effort.
User ReviewBims Ball the looong scenes..it's more like watching a play than watching a movie based on a play..but it's still enjoyable..
User ReviewRalph RThis is an excellent drama from Alfred Hitchcock, very much out of the usual material we're used to from him. The filming of the play is unfortunately very stagey, and Hitchcock was reportedly very unhappy with the excellent reviews it received. If you can get past the staginess of the framing and cinematography, Sean O'Casey's play is a gripping character study which holds up well.
User ReviewBen PA pretty faithful adaptation of Sean O' Casey's play of the same name. There are a few things removed and the movie ends with Juno instead of the 'Captain,' but overall pretty good. Not really for Hitchcock fans, as it doesn't bare any of his trademark techniques.
