Jumanji, one of the most unique--and dangerous--board games ever, falls into the hands of the curious teen, Alan Parrish, in 1969. Mysterious and magical, the game strands the unsuspecting boy in the lush, savage forests of a mythical realm. Nearly three decades later, the game releases him before the awed eyes of the young orphaned siblings, Judy and Peter Shepherd. Now, the wild and incessant beat of the jungle's tribal drums is calling for the now-adult Alan and the other hesitant players, as the one who rolls the dice must never leave undone what the roll has started. Movie Reviews

Deseret News (Salt Lake City) - 9/10 by Chris HicksEveryone is good here, with Williams taking on the unusual persona of straightman much of the way.
Black Nerd Comedy - 8/10 by Andre MeadowsIt was totally one of those 90's movies specifically made for 90's kids.
San Francisco Examiner - 8/10 by Walter AddiegoThe result is a thrill ride with enough plunges and turns and loop-the-loops to make it worth a spin. What the picture lacks is the magic and resonance you feel in the best of popular entertainments.
Groucho Reviews - 6/10 by Peter CanaveseLike the rest of Johnston's oeuvre, Jumanji puts vivid characters through paces that will quicken any child's pulse.
USA Today - 6/10 by Mike ClarkEschewing warm, cuddly imagery just as Mr. Van Allsburg's book does, the film affects a strange, artificial style that has the invasive weirdness of "Gremlins" but none of the charm.
Independent on Sunday - 6/10 by Quentin CurtisThe joy of Jumanji is in how sparingly director Joe Johnston deploys his arsenal of computers, making the tricks and shocks the more real.
About.com - 6/10 by Fred TopelGreat special effects and exciting adventure stuff. A bit of a slow buildup and unnecessarily dead parents.
Entertainment Weekly - 6/10 by Owen GleibermanJumanji is cardboard Spielberg, a B-movie scrap heap of spare parts lifted from "Jurassic Park" and "Gremlins" and "Back to the Future".
ReelViews - 5/10 by James BerardinelliJumanji takes approximately one-hundred minutes for four people to play a board game. The result isn't much more fun or involving than watching a few friends play Monopoly.
Variety - 5/10 by Leonard KladyThe screenplay, however, denies the film a solid foundation. Jumanji is diverting in a splashy , eye-catching manner, but is about as substantive and durable as filigree.
