During their long horseback voyage from Texas to Virginia, the seven young men will witness first-hand the Southern prejudice and snobbery. They also will witness the lynching of runaway black slaves. Filled with dreams of war glory, they will nevertheless push ahead toward their destination. Their trek eastward is eventful and fraught with dangers, as the Texans will occasionally get into trouble with the townsfolk from various towns. Although they do eventually join the Confederate forces, it will happen in Shiloh, Tennessee not in Richmond, Virginia as planned. After becoming soldiers, they realize that war is not what they expected or dreamed about. The army and the war are not at all compatible with the core human values of ordinary Texans. The battle of Shiloh is the epitaph of this story.

| User ReviewAlex FSi se quiere ver a James Caan en una extraña faceta de vaquero, entonces hay que verlo en Journey to Shiloh (1969). Con botas, chaleco, sombrero y una no muy favorecedora melena, James Caan es el lÃder de un grupo de amigos texanos, dispuestos a enrolarse como soldados durante la Guerra Civil. Harrison Ford lo acompaña, en uno de sus primeros papeles en cine de su à (C)poca âpre-Han-Soloâ?. Su jornada los lleva por distintas aventuras, en la que descubrirán tanto la crudeza de la esclavitud como la discriminación social. Ah, claro, y el amor, al menos nada más para Buck (James Caan), cuando lleve a cabo el romántico deber de defender a una bella camarera en un casino, nada menos que de unos soldados confederados. Y será bien recompensado por ello. |

| User Reviewjay nPonderous western starts out well but loses it's way at about the halfway point. Much of the fault lies in the direction since the cast are all able players. James Caan's wig is so obviously fake that it becomes incredibly distracting. Still interesting for the cast including a young Harrison Ford. |
| User ReviewPaul DI came across this the other night. The parallels to the Vietnam war are so obvious here. It's a pretty by-the-numbers western with stock characters and phoney settings. It's hilarious just to see a young Harrison Ford and Jan-Michael Vincent as part of Caan's "soldiers". |
