EmanuelLevy.ComEmanuel LevyDenys Arcand made this original movie, in which life imitates art, at the peak of his career, right after Decline of the American Empire.
Filmcritic.comJake EukerBluteau has taken his Daniel too seriously, Daniel has taken his Jesus too seriously, and Arcand’s resolute detachment brings the whole conception down.
User ReviewMartin FThe best movie of Denis Arcand, probably the most impressive movie in my life. Lothaite Bluteau is amazing. This is an universal movie with a big essence of what is french-canada. Different like this movie.
User ReviewRin LSo beautiful and relevant to our time...a must see...
User ReviewAdam GThis movie is miraculous in every sense of the word. It will help you understand the Bible better than ever, and see clearly what senseless vitriol comes from the radical evangelical right. The story is woven together perfectly, and you're not sure where reality stops and fantasy begins. I'm an atheist but I believe strongly in the sacred heart of this movie.
User ReviewJulie DMy absolute favorite religious-themed movie. Not only is it a great life-imitating-art type story about an actor, it also points at the tendency a lot of churches have to only accept a very particular interpretation of the Bible. Excellent in every way, and highly recommended!
User ReviewEric LFunny and beautiful, but not a "family" movie. One of my recent favorites. Some very memorable scenes-- the passion play cast running through alternate styles of acting, and when the guy playing Jesus takes himself down from the cross because he's been arrested for real.
User ReviewGail RA parable featuring clever parallels to the Easter story. Extra pleasures for those who know anything about Quebec culture.
User ReviewBrian EIntelligent without the Dan Brown hostility for anything biblical. The most original film about Jesus I've seen; beaming with imagination and confidence. Fresh, provocative, funny. The images and situations are unforgettable. I love the scene where the two 'Mary's escort the dying Jesus to the subway...
