Movie Reviews

The Playlist - 8/10 by Asher LubertoIt’s an absorbing (if sometimes preachy) look at the horrors of becoming a housewife, and a splash of holy water on the demons of assigned gender roles.
RogerEbert.com - 8/10 by Sheila O'MalleyIn Jakob’s Wife, the classic vampire theme is looped into an insightful and often very funny commentary on marriage and the limitations placed on women.
Film Threat - 8/10 by Lorry KiktaWhile there are some serious themes at play, the movie still has plenty of gooey gory fun for horror fans.
Slashfilm - 7/10 by Jacob HallAs a showcase for its legendary leads, and as late-night snack for those who like scores synthesized and their blood practical, it’s certainly a good enough time at the movies.
Consequence - 7/10 by Jenn AdamsJakob’s Wife is a fun throwback to gory vampire horror, but its gory surface covers some troubling implications. The problem lies in presenting two oppositional arguments and not fully interrogating either of them.
Austin Chronicle - 7/10 by Richard WhittakerBy turns funny, grisly, tragic and insightful, Jakob's Wife carries the smartness of years. Never has the idea that vampire and vampire hunter are caught in a codependent relationship been more elegantly and humorously framed.
Los Angeles Times - 7/10 by Noel MurrayThe themes of Jakob’s Wife are a bit simplistic, but the lead performances are incredibly complex, drawing on the two stars’ decades of screen (and life) experience.
The Guardian - 6/10 by Leslie FelperinCrampton and Fessenden’s easy, credible chemistry keeps up a steady baseline of bickering banter that’s charming throughout. The film could have been a bit more audacious about tweaking Christian pieties, but you can’t have everything.
The Film Stage - 6/10 by Jared MobarakCrampton and Fessenden are great in their respective roles both when the drama asks them to grab our attention and the comedy asks them to goof around
The A.V. Club - 6/10 by Katie RifeDespite the conviction Crampton and Fessenden bring to their onscreen relationship, however, Jakob’s Wife is more successful as a gleeful bloodbath than it is as a character-driven horror-drama.
