Under the RadarAustin TrunickJabberwocky will certainly be of interest to both Gilliam and [Monty] Python fans; we just can't see it ever becoming a favorite of either.
Monthly Film BulletinGeoff BrownNothing builds into full-blooded absurdity, and the enormous cast of British comic specialists is given little opportunity to help out (though they were presumably recruited just for that purpose).
rec.arts.movies.reviewsShane BurridgeThe cast looks like it was recruited from a Pasolini movie, the budget-concious framing is claustrophobic, and there's way too much smoke
Q Network Film DeskJames Kendricknot a particularly good film, even though it is an often clever and exceedingly efficient in its absurdist experimentation mixing fantasy and comedy and romance.
User ReviewFiona Cone of the greatest comedies ever! the dark and slightly warped humour does not appeal to everyone but then again i am MAD!
User ReviewShane DClassic Python attitude, with pure Gilliam style. Ahh, the good ol' days when you could get away with nudity and graphic violence in a p.g. rated movie.
User ReviewDonald WOne ob the best, yet understated works by members of Python.
User ReviewRory Fyfe SEntertaining mvooe, with good acting and funny scenes.
User ReviewGlen OJabberwocky is one of my favorite films. You follow Dennis Cooper in his quest to be worthy of a hideous fat girl who doesn't like him at all, a quest he ultimately fails by succeeding. The settings and direction are pure genius. Gilliam does more with a relatively low budget to make a ridiculous world believable than many directors with high budgets and state-of-the-art special effects.
User ReviewSydnie CJabberwocky is a great example of Gilliam's early work. Palin is his usual hilarious self playing Dennis Cooper who sets out on a quest to the city where the fierce Jabberwocky is terrorising the Kingdom. He bumbles through many misadventures, getting beaten up by a barman, having to dress as a nun and exposing his bottom to a crowd of people. It's a cracking little British gem and one of Gilliam's finest. Any Python fan surely loves Jabberwocky!
