The orange grove consists of a withered tree, the ranch house is but a shack, and the car falls to pieces. But a racetrack operator wants the land, so all ends happily.

Movie Reviews

Arizona Daily Star - 10/10 by Phil VillarrealW.C. Fields is a near-forgotten comedic treasure waiting to be unearthed by anyone with a DVD player.
Film and Felt - 7/10 by Gabe LeibowitzThere's plenty to enjoy here, and little to dislike.
Ozus' World Movie Reviews - 7/10 by Dennis SchwartzIt's W.C. Fields at the top of his game; a classic comical study on the horrors of bourgeois family life.
Mountain Xpress (Asheville, NC) - 6/10 by Ken HankeW.C. Fields in his prime. If not his best, not far from it.
User Review - 10/10 by Allan CI love W.C Fields and this is his best film. He drinks, he's mean to children, he hates his wife and family, all of the Fields hallmarks. If you're a fan of this film, you should also check out Rodney Dangerfield's semi-remake, "Easy Money".
User Review - 10/10 by Guy BThis is a classic! WC Fields has his own blend of humor, and it isn't for everyone, but it works great in this film. The plot moves quick enough and keeps the gags flowing at a good pace. It's very staged and totaly contrived, but it works (in one of the few movies that can claim that). The plot isn't that engrossing, but the "payoff" in the end is worth the whole movie. I must say I fell in love with this movie after the ending. When I watched it again, it had all the more charm. Altogether, this is a fun, charming old movie - if you can, it's worth the effort.
User Review - 10/10 by Donald MThe irrascible Fields in full grouchy glory.Plots never mattered in the great man's films...Carl Le Fong...baby LeRoy tormenting...Kumquats!...the motley family unit.
User Review - 10/10 by JD PW.C. Fields is the man. If this isn't the greatest W.C feature film, then what is? The Bank Dick?
User Review - 10/10 by Anthony VOh so funny. Love the orange juice at the end.
User Review - 10/10 by Thomas MW.C. Fields best and most identifiable work. This ones a straightforward laugh fest as there is none of that bull involving song and dance numbers or a young romance subplot that hollywood lved to insert into its zany comedies of the time. Irascible as always there will always be only one W.C. Fields. And thats a shame. What a unique talent.
