SFX MagazineIan BerrimanA chilling and thought-provoking film because it resists the clichés of Hollywood war movies, where good and evil are often clearly delineated.
User ReviewMatt CWhat if Britain had been occupied? Here, shown in frighteningly good detail.
User ReviewAlastair AA very touching film that made me think hard about what actually makes someone a 'collaborator', and what I'd do in a similar world.
User ReviewPrivate UEveryone should see this film. No budget, no big names, but one hell of a big idea.
User ReviewChris MAn intriguing and compelling alternative history, which succeeds in rasing questions not only about how people might have responded, had things turned out differently, but also about how one should respond to the prevailing political situation. The portrayal is so realistic that it's almost hard to believe that it didn't happen...
User ReviewJeff ZCounter-factual history at its best. The improvised, not scripted interview with the real British National Socialists is blood-chilling. None of the many technical and performance glitches can undo its shattering effect.
User ReviewJohn BHadn't seen this in years. Forgot how great it was. Sort of an "alternate material history" of WWII, as told through magazines, books, shoes, uniforms, films and music.
User Reviewsam jTook me a while to get into this. At first I couldn't make out what was happening or what anyone was saying but after a while I adjusted to it and watched it in its entirety. It's a very interesting concept and one I think that has been very well presented in this. I do think, if we were successfully invaded by the Germans we (the British) would have slipped into that frame of mind and become National Socialist. It's such a scary thought as well seen as we pride ourselves on being resisting the Nazi regime now. I would like to see a good modern version of this. But only if it was good. There are so many bad modern adaptations out there nowadays!
User ReviewRob LInteresting, if slow, alternate-history of London in WWII. Its narrative strength seems to lie in its choice of main character, an English nurse whose politics are shallow but typically human. We don't see the Nazis through the lens of persecuted Jews or resistance fighters, but instead through the eyes of someone who is nominally apathetic. We're not used to hearing the voice of colluding Brits espousing Nazi ideals, and its insidious drone in daily minutia is chilling.
User ReviewSean CThe sound quality is a bit off, but this is a well made and arresting film about the Nazis conquering Britain.
