Movie Reviews

New York Times - 4/10 by Neil Genzlinger Everybody involved with the awful comedy "Is That a Gun in Your Pocket?..." owes Aristophanes an apology.
Movie Nation - 4/10 by Roger Moore This is a toothless satire, a sermon lacking the bite or broad wit of similar films.
Variety - 4/10 by Joe Leydon To call this feeble comedy a misfire would be to give it more credit than it's due.
Hollywood Reporter - 3/10 by Sheri Linden A guns-and-sex comedy that fires blanks on all fronts.
Washington Post - 3/10 by Mark Jenkins Most of the time, though, the movie is too busy being saucy or sappy to even look at its target.
Austin Chronicle - 2/10 by Marjorie Baumgarten Is That a Gun resorts to smutty humor and moralistic speeches to confront the issue of American gun violence in the wake of Newtown, Conn. This movie uses those murdered babies’ name in vain.
Film Inquiry - 2/10 by Jacqui Blue If I hadn't committed to writing a review of Is That A Gun In Your Pocket?, I likely wouldn't have had to convince myself to sit through the second half of it.
Village Voice - 0/10 by Chris Packham The film combines agonizing scenes of didactic earnestness about gun violence with the absolutely soul-crushing ennui of flaccid marriage jokes.
Los Angeles Times - 0/10 by Noel Murray The movie tries to wrap an important social message in comedy, but it’s unpalatable all the way through.
User Review - 10/10 by Kena B The movie was very entertaining! I thought the cast did a phenomenal job. Anyone that hasn't seen it should definitely see it.
User Review - 10/10 by Suzy T Saw this recently at a local film festival and thought it was a hilarious. Cloris Leachman plays a dirty old lady and she had me laughing out loud. In fact, pretty much everyone was laughing pretty hard at her and a lot of the other actors who were excellent. As far as the story, it's set in Texas and is about a housewife fighting with her husband to take a stand against gun violence and gun ownership. Their "family feud" spill over to their friends and then the whole town gets involved and it becomes a men vs women feud over guns in the town, which is kind of a big debate in the country right now so it seems pretty topical as far as a story. But it doesn't get too serious since it's a comedy, but it makes good points about gun control, and makes you think while you laugh. Overall, I give it an A-. It was fun and cute, and since I'm originally from Arkansas, I could really relate to the small hometown setting in the movie.
User Review - 10/10 by Claudia C What is really good in this film, is that the issue of gun control is presented in the movie in a fun, entertaining way, lots of laughs. Empowers women voices and proposals. Love is the weapon, sex is the weapon. Great cast.
