One night, young David McLean sees a spaceship crash into a nearby sandpit. His father goes to investigate, but comes back changed. Where once he was cheerful and affectionate, he's now sullen and snarlingly rude. Others fall into the sandpit and begin acting like him: cold, ill-tempered and conspiratorial. David knows that aliens are taking over the bodies of humans, but he'll soon discover there have been far more of these terrible thefts than he could have imagined. The young doom-monger finds some serious help in a lady doctor and a brilliant astronomer. Soon they meet the aliens: green creatures with insect-like eyes. These beings prove to be slaves to their leader: a large, silent head with ceaselessly shifting eyes and two tentacles on either side, each of which branches off into three smaller tentacles. It's up to the redoubtable earth trio to stop its evil plans.

Movie Reviews

Mountain Xpress (Asheville, NC) - 8/10 by Ken HankeOne of the silliest and most threadbare 1950s science fiction movies, while at the same time being one of the best.
DVDJournal.com - 8/10 by Mark BourneInvaders from Mars really is laughably camp and an often goony 79 minutes, but if that was its totality it would be utterly dismissed like so many of its kin today.
Ozus' World Movie Reviews - 7/10 by Dennis SchwartzAn enjoyable B-movie, but not quite as good as its reputation suggests it would be.
User Review - 10/10 by Tanner MOne of the best B-movies I've ever seen. This movie has it all. Science theories, alien humans, and some @$& creepy aliens. That's mainly what I loved about this movie is the aliens. There so awesome but, when I first saw them it gave me the chills. Amazing! I've seen a lot of B-movies but, none of them have creeped me out like this one. The only thing that really bothered me was the music was a little out of place for this movie. It could've had more effective (and a lot less dramatic) music. Besides that this movie is a must-watch for any sci-fi loving fan.
User Review - 10/10 by Sue HI first saw this movie as a child when it came out. More than 60 years later, I still remember it, get shivers when I think of the ending, and would like to see it again. That kind of "staying power" is what I think makes it a good movie. Few movies make it to my repeat viewing list.
User Review - 10/10 by Alejandro CThis is a fantastic film,it's great in every way, You couldn't remake this if you tried,The cast is great, the sets are fantastic, and the lead child is great, enjoy this classic
User Review - 10/10 by Duane BAn early Sci Fi classic from 1953. Brilliant!
User Review - 10/10 by Christopher BScared the hell out of me as a child--I could scarcely go into the bark yard for a week for fear of what might be lurking underground. Still a classic of Cold War paranoia and propaganda.
User Review - 10/10 by Bruce WMy very favorite of all 50s sci-fi !! Haunting musical score !!
User Review - 10/10 by Alexander RClassic B movie, if you see one 50s sci-fi film, choose this one. The ending seems cliched now, but this was made in 1953, and should be watched in context, not through jaded, 21st century eyes. After all, even cliches have to start somewhere, don't they?
