User ReviewIan MNow here's a winning combination: a bunch of sorority babes against giant, mutated, cannibalistic bugs! Yep, that's right. Don't be an idiot and expect a lot of seriousness from a film like Insecticidal, which has brilliant, nerdy bug scientist Cami working with her large number of pet bugs until the bitchy head girl sprays them with poison and destroys them all...or so they think. Now, the bugs have turned into laughably bad CGI monsters that prey on everyone in the house by killing and devouring them whole. There's a decent body count mixed with a healthy dose of good female nudity and bug action, but as one might expect, it's all deliciously corny and over-the-top. If you can get past all of that campy awfulness, Insecticidal is actually a lot of fun. I know the first time I watched it 4 years back, I hated it, but that was me being petty and stupid. Now, as a much more seasoned horror fan, who realizes that everything coming out at the cinema is much, much worse, I found myself giving this movie a second chance and liking it a whole lot more. Biggest genuine downfall though is still that confusing ending that I now get this time around, but it's still muddled and doesn't explain itself out more clearly. Not a bad follow-up from director Jeffrey Scott Lando, who first wowed some folks with his debut chiller, Savage Island. He would later go on and do the similarly themed Decoys 2 (except it's aliens instead of bugs) which was a lot of fun. Insecticidal was written by all-around nice guy Jeff O'Brien, who helps add some dumb fun to this film. Anyways, that's all this movie is: dumb fun. Don't take it seriously!
User ReviewMeLinda. MOne crazy ass movie. I mean crazy. Ehh. It was ok though. Watch it if you like them cheesy movie's.
User ReviewRick MBrilliant sorority girl Cami's experiment in insect intelligence goes awry, leaving giant, mutant insects hunting for food in a sorority house - and the only thing to eat is beautiful sorority sisters! The insect horrors increase in size while their source of food shrinks. The girls fight a savage hit and run battle with whatever weapons they can find. But the insects have more on their super-intelligent minds than food. Beautiful Josi becomes a host for more than sorority parties when she is infected with the next generation of mutant insects! Cami and a few survivors survive the night, leaving insect carnage throughout the house.
User ReviewDon SThis movie tries really hard to evoke the feelings of creature features from previous eras. The horrid CGI does little to help in that respect. The acting and the idiotic writing brings it much closer. This is not a good movie, nor really even a good B-movie, but the effort was definitely headed in the right direction.
User ReviewDavid SThe acting is really good, the rest of the movie was pants. Where the bugs free on a photoshop magazine? Would like to see these guys doing something proper.
User ReviewSarah LOnly gets the stars for pure quality crapness!!
User ReviewLuke BWhat do you get if you let giant mutated bugs loose in a Sorority House full of barely clothed, sex obsessed girls? Well the answer is Insecticidal, a falling ever so slightly onto the so bad its bad school of B movie turd. I can handle bad acting and ludicrous plot holes and twists but one thing I can't be doing with is poor CGI. The characters are more or less as you expect, bitchy head girls, stunning lesbian couple, jock boyfriends and our heroine the virginail geeky bug obsessed girl. This is reasonably entertaining and it has its gross out moments but trys to hard in places to show as much flesh as possible, not something I expected to say!, and comes across as quite forced. The death scenes are inventive in parts but again let down by bad CGI. All in all it put the 90 minutes in well enough but not something i plan to see again, and I have seen worse in my time.
User ReviewAj DNot completely without entertainment, but the plot has many holes. The acting is soso. If your into big bug movies, it might be worth a rent.
