Sonny reminisces about a time in his life forty-three years earlier when he was a socially awkward but street smart 15-year-old in 1944. He lived in what he considered a bizarre home life in Los Angeles with his somewhat naive but unusual parents. Like most mid-teen boys, he wanted to meet a nice girl his own age and ultimately fall in love with her. Girls his own age didn't seem to be attracted to him. Instead, he met and romanced in succession two older women: first, twenty-one year old Judy, who was already in a common law relationship which had bore two children, and second, twenty-five year old Francine, whose husband was away at war. After the first highly publicized relationship, he was dubbed "The Woo Woo Kid" by the press. And despite the press resulting from the first relationship after which Sonny vowed not to get involved with an older woman ever again, he met Francine which started the cycle all over again. This press also brought disdain by many, but admiration and love from afar by an abundance of young women and teenyboppers. With this recollection of life in 1944, Sonny just wants to tell the story from his side.

Internet ReviewsSteve RhodesA hauntingly beautiful tale that will stay with you.
Ozus' World Movie ReviewsDennis SchwartzThe genial comedy has its funny moments, but overall lacks a knockout punch.

User ReviewBen UI watched "In The Mood" only because I was bored and it was on Encore so I watched it not really expecting much. However, the movie has a very wacky story plot that kept me awake at least and had a few good "awesome" moments, such as Steve the Bunny. Some bits were boring and the end really didn't turn out the way I wanted, and the odd relationship between the Woo Woo Kid and his father was a bit unexplained, which may have made the movie better.
User ReviewDiana LAnother patrick Dempsey flim. He is perfect as the woo woo kid.
User ReviewMel LAnother great true-life story turned into a good movie.
User Reviewbill shave not watched it in a long time but it is definitely a good movie.
User ReviewGena DThe 'some what factual' true story of Sonny W (The Woo Woo Kid) ...I think if this story is true it only would have happened in California. Patrick Demsey really held his own on this film despite it being not to amazing. It was interesting but seemed a bit far fetched in parts. Quite a cool look & style this film had set just after WW2. Both love interests gave great supporting roles, but overall it was silly to make this boy famous for his love affairs, goes to show how trivial media will be just to have a so called 'scoop'....
User ReviewCaleb MDamn, but Patrick Dempsy is a gifted comedian. In IN THE MOOD he manages to be charming, sweet, innocent and goofy. The set-up is funny, all the more so being based on a "true story". While it's true that today this sort of story wouldn't be met with such fanfare, it's fun to see the 1950's American public's reaction to it. IN THE MOOD is genial and sweet. It's little more than a cute comedy, but it contains some astute observations on the difference between men and women's approach to romance, and it will leave you with a smile on your face.
User ReviewScott MStory about a teenager during the 1940's who is arrested because he marries older women. Kind of an odd tale that I enjoyed a lot because I wanted to be him. Dempsey's best movie.
