Pittsburgh Post-GazetteRob OwenThis sweet story that has been put to film shows the passion Cartwright found for the 1954 Fellini film "La Strada" that started a three-decade journey that resulted in the story of what it means to be deeply passionate about something.
Behind The LensDebbie Lynn EliasMuch like a Fellini film, we see humanity and life under unique lenses which just strengthen our own individual journeys and examinations of our own human condition and the idea of daring to dream. MAGNIFICO! BELLISIMO! MAGICO!
Paste MagazineAndy CrumpWhether his film is worthy of Fellini's image is in the eye of the beholder, but one gets the sense that if Il Mago still lived, he would approve, not only of Lexton's flattering homage but also his understanding of the magic of cinema.
Paste MagazineAndrew CrumpIn Search of Fellini isn’t a sophisticated movie. Instead, it’s a joyful movie, and the lack of refinement, whether embodied by the overuse of Fellini clips or the lack of juicy material for Bello and Rajskub to sink their teeth into, shows without stymying the movie’s intentions as a love note to its namesake.
The New York TimesMonica CastilloThe movie can shift unevenly from effusive love letter to travel lust to sentimental moment, but that doesn’t break the fantasy.
The Hollywood ReporterJohn DeForeWhere the final minutes of the movie suffer from clumsy storytelling, most of what precedes them sits well within the romantic finding-oneself comfort zone, and Solo, while not able to imbue her character with Amelie-like spark, helps keep things from getting treacly.
Los Angeles TimesKatie WalshThe quasi-magical realist film In Search of Fellini has its heart in the right place but wears its studied quirks on its sleeve, leading with influences and references rather than a strong story.
Movie NationRoger MooreIn Search of Fellini fails to figure out twee, and more’s the pity, because the fellow who gave his name to the title perfected that — in decades of subtitled films made in his native Italy.
Anchorage PressIndra ArriagaIn Search of Fellini is not trying to hide its source material and inspiration, or replace Fellini's works, it's simply adoring of his work, an in this regard, the film is in reverence of the rich and magical world that Fellini creates.
User ReviewDenice DThis brought back memories of having travelled to Europe myself as a young girl! The cinematography was so stellar every frame was a picturesque, just breathtaking! Mary Lynn was delightful comedic relif and the realtionshiop between Ksenia and Maria was very well developed. This film brought the parts of Fellini to the screen that I admired and the ending of this film was one that made me think and I loved that. Bravo Ms Cartwright on your amazing adventure brought to the big screen in such an emotional and stunning way!
