Ozus' World Movie ReviewsDennis SchwartzMarvelously sinister performance by Laird Cregar.
Seanax.comSean Axmaker... not just one of the great movie titles of classic cinema, it is one of the films that established the distinctive style and attitude of film noir...
User ReviewElijah DI just watched this again. This is probably the best film noir ever made, at least I think so...
User ReviewGal SGreat noir suspense and 40's fun rolled into one.
User ReviewDoug CI'll try and remember the name H. Bruce Humberstone (yeah, doesn't roll off the tongue like Fritz Lang), since he's made one of the first and still most classic film noirs of the period. It's got the whodunnit, it's got the classy dames with more than a little motivation and guts, it's got the tough guy lead who is lookin to prove his innocence, and the smug and slimy cop out to bust him. And as great as the direction can be, how about the dialog!
User ReviewPatty MGreat film noir with a little bit of comedy thrown in. One of Victor Mature's best films. Laird Cregar is fantastic as the creepy cop.
User ReviewAhmed KTremendous style! Elisha Cook Jr. is one of my favorite character actors. He's great in so many noirs.
User ReviewMatthew LBrilliant cinematography, Betty Grable, creepy cops, razor sharp wit, Victor Mature's droopy eye lids, it's all just a bad dream...only not.
User ReviewAndrew WEd Cornell: "When I get all my evidence together, I'm gonna have you tied up like a pig in a slaughterhouse."
User ReviewGreg Wawesome film noir from the first noir cycle also betty grable's only non singing non dancing performance.
