User Review - 10/10 by Ozzdeath SNot bad - it reminded me how much I detest mainstream music.
User Review - 10/10 by Erik JThis is a great documentary explaining how the music industry destroyed the music industry. It also chronicles the gradual disappearance of music stores as a result. As good of a watch this is, I find it quite sad and disheartening. If you really understand and cherish the value of music, you'll get it. And to those yahoos giving bad ratings because they don't like the "portrayal" of the corporate record labels, big box stores, and the "Clear Channel" like radio stations role in destroying the music scene, is absolutely ignorant. It's not an agenda within the film, it's a straight up fact. They are the ones who funneled the money into what they wanted to sell, in terms of paying radio stations to play what the labels wanted us to hear and funding the multimillion dollar marketing shit show of pop culture. That's why people got labeled as sell outs. It wasn't about the music anymore, the artists were chasing the dollar. And that dollar comes in form of some of the least creative and worst music being created. The labels could have completely prevented this by supporting all music. And I firmly believe the music industry would not be in such dire straits.
User Review - 8/10 by Rob MIndependent records stores are a dying breed. This is a great look at those stores.
User Review - 8/10 by Jeff HThis movie is more broad than I thought it would be and the title is a little misleading since it is really a documentry about the change in music culture. It explains how clear channel ruined the radio waves, record companies ruined music in general and how walmart has ruined our culture. I am guilty of not going to a record store in years due to itunes but we should support these stores that provide culture to our society and not big box stores that strip it from us.
User Review - 8/10 by Lester YGreat movie on record stores, companies and the biznuz. Reminds me so much of comics.
User Review - 8/10 by Andrew SIf your life was forever changed as a result of something you purchased from a record store, this film is for you. If you like to hold album art in your hands and read/look at it while you listen to the music, this film is for you. If you see music as an art form with a history worth appreciating and preserving, this film is for you. If you see music as electronic files that play while you surf the internet, kill yourself. I mean, this film is not for you. Features interviews with Ian MacKaye, Mike Watt, Thurston Moore, Legs McNeil, Lenny Kaye and many others who know what time it is. Watch for the television clip of Chuck D tearing off Lars Ulrich's ass & handing it to him in roundtable interview. Kick it to the birds, man!
User Review - 8/10 by Tim MCool little documentary on the demise of the indie record store that in reality, is much more. It's a comment on the homogenization of American culture, and how the soulless corporations at the top of the music industry food chain have contributed to it.
User Review - 8/10 by John HSolid documentary with interesting interviews (particularly Thurston Moore, Glenn Branca, and Ian MacKaye; Chomsky is almost a non-entity in this one despite his name being listed) and dynamic personae.
User Review - 8/10 by Anonymous UserGreat movie on record stores, companies and the biznuz. Reminds me so much of comics.
User Review - 6/10 by Matt GA little nerdy and idealistic, but still pretty good.
