IGN DVDR.L. ShafferRuns through all the same cliches, but Husk has it's interesting twists and turns, and plenty of atmosphere.
Dread CentralHeather WixsonWhat Director Brett Simmons does effectively as a storyteller is establish a believable back-story to these creatures and pull you right into the victims' world with well-paced energy and some really great moments of tension.

MovieMartyr.comJeremy HeilmanSuspense is valued here over gore, and it must be noted that the brief final scene manages to be genuinely eerie.
FEARnetScott WeinbergNot terrible, but the 27-minute version was better.
User ReviewJack MFive because I want to support the film. The first twenty minutes or so could have used some work on pacing and character development, and some real dialog rewrites, but once the film gets going it's not a bad affair at all. It looks great visually and I'm looking forward to seeing where this leads for the Director!
User ReviewChris BI personally loved this movie. Despite its many issues (for example its Trite Cain/Abel archetype and cliché group dynamic) it has beautiful camera work, editing AND acting, but BY FAR my favorite touch was the over the top homoerotic undertones. It adds a 7 layer dip of depth that no b-movie since has met for me. The twist of the nerd, Scott, being the homoerotic center-of-attention hero was a pleasant surprise and makes me hope this had a happy end for him. This movie scared me, made me tear up, made me laugh and shout(at how stupid they were), warmed my heart, left me with hope, and honestly turned me on a little when the Abel type character FIRST caressed Scott's face then started torturing him, and then when "Abel" left him tied on up on the side lines to make him watch while he sliced up Chris for the sole reason of making Scott watch. He sliced his throat just deep enough so he couldn't scream... BEFORE the people stopped to help. Why? He had no problem with the noise before. (I actually would have liked to see what he had planned for Scott.... I'm a perv, moving on.) And then why not just kill him by the road? Why give him the chance to wave the bystanders away? Or let him get away? (REALLY. IS THERE ANY QUESTION AS TO WHY I THINK THIS WAS HOMOEROTIC?? My mother looked at me like I was crazy. "Abel" DEFINITELY had a weird kink for our sweet nerdy hero.)
User ReviewJohn Joseph MOne of the best After Dark originals since Seconds Apart and 51 along with Prowl. Husk is a really fascinating Horror movie about killer scarecrows and this film is everything you want for a Horror movie and it has all of the thrills and jolts of most Horror movies and this is seriously a great movie and this movie also plays as a supernatural thriller other than a Horror movie. The plot of this film is about a group of friends who become stranded in the country following a horrific car accident. When the group finds an abandoned house and when they later on find out that something's wrong the group must escape the cornfield after they realized that all of the scarecrows have no intention of letting them escape the cornfield and the group must escape before they all die. I seriously enjoyed this movie and it really has everything you need for a Horror movie. This film has some serious style and the movie has a lot of originality compared to the other After Dark movies like Seconds Apart and other After Dark films. What's great about Husk is that the film has a lot of really dark content and the film's tone and themes are really dark and deep and everything about the film is just great. There are lots of dark and deep tones used in the film and I like the idea of how Husk uses a lot of really dark and deep tones and like the other After Dark films like 51 and Scream Of The Banshee Husk is one of the only After Dark films since Seconds Apart to have a lot of dark content and both Husk and Seconds Apart are really dark so far since 51 and Scream Of The Banshee are less dark but more scary and suspenceful. What's great also about Husk is that the film is full of suspenceful scenes. The scene where Brian and Scott finds Johnny in the house sewing is one of the most suspenceful scenes in the movie and that scene was super creepy and eerie as well and I seriously like that scene so far. The scene where Natalie gets attacked by the scarecrows is one of the most suspenceful scenes as well in the film because the way Natalie gets attacked by the scarecrows really got me and that scene really made me jump and the suspense used in that scene is just great so far. While the scene where Chris gets attacked by the undead version of Johnny while he's in the car is one of the most tense parts of the film as well and I like that scene so far because that scene really freaked me out and I like how that scene was made so far. What I also like about Husk is that the film also has a really eerie atmosphere on certain parts and the film is also atmospheric but nowhere near as atmospheric as Seconds Apart although I like the atmosphere in this movie and the atmosphere is just eerie and atmospheric at the same time but it's nowhere near as atmospheric as Seconds Apart but at least it managed to handle the atmosphere quite well so far. The other things that I like about Husk is that the film is also full of gruesome kills and the body count in Husk is just gruesome so far. The flashback scene where Chris can see the young farm boy kill his brother and hid him as a scarecrow is a really gruesome death scene and the way the farm boy kills his brother is really gory and gruesome at the same time and I think that is the most gruesome scene in the film so far. While the scene where Natalie gets attacked is really nasty and gory as well and I think that is also the most gruesome part of the movie so far even the scene where Chris gets impaled in some wood and blood started coming out of his mouth and I think that is also the goriest part of the film so far and most of the kills in this movie are just plain gory and nasty at the same time which is great so far. Now the acting is great the performances of the casts in this movie is just great and I'm not mainly familiar with the actors and actresses in this movie but they handled they're performances well in the movie so far. Director Brett Simmons really handled his directing quite well with this movie so far and I'm hoping to see more of his work in the future because he really made a great Horror film and I was impressed with his work on this movie so far. Overall Husk gets a 10/10 because this movie has all of the originality and style and it also has everything you need for a Horror movie so far.
