He is still in his sleeping robe when the first prospective tenants, Mr. & Mrs. Mustavas, come by with the renting agent. As the Mustavases wander around, Doakes tries his hardest to hide the many imperfections of the apartment to varying degrees of success. He is also woefully uninformed of many of the aspects of the apartment despite having lived there for quite some time. By the end of the Mustavases' visit, none of it may matter.
