User Review - 8/10 by Ed COne line summary: Murder mystery meets murder reenactment website; worth seeing Terrence Howard and Peter Fonda. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Henry Lee Bishop is on death row for a series of grisly murders. Years later, he's still in jail, solitary mostly, and similar murders happen. Detective Starks investigates, including going to the prison to talk to Bishop eyeball to eyeball. A bunch of young idiots run a simulated-sex-and-murder-reenacted-over-Internet sort of business. They strive for realism. They fake each other out. It seems the director intends that we don't know what is real or not with this group. A deaf, speechless young man plays video games and visits gory websites. One of these is 'House of Bodies' which supposedly was inspired by Henry Lee Bishop's place of residence. This is the website of the idiots mentioned above. In each room the young women re-enact murders committed there. Our young man reads all this on the site. That's the site's marketing ploy. That's what the detectives are not seeing: the website seems to have generated at least one copycat killer. Tracey runs the house and the site. Kelli is the new recruit who is a bit gun shy. Tisha is more accustomed to the work. Sadey left the job before she was murdered. The deaf boy logs into the site, and Tracey assigns him to Kelli to talk to. They get to know each other a bit. Sadly, the killer comes in, then starts taking out the staff. So, who gets out of this alive? ------Scores-------- Cinematography: 9/10 Usually excellent. Sound: 8/10 Usually quite good, but Terrence Howard was badly miked. AM radio in the desert sounds better. The incidental music was good for creepiness. Acting: 8/10 Worth seeing for the interactions between Terrence Howard and Peter Fonda. Screenplay: 8/10 Much better than I expected. Plot progresses well, and the detective solves a mystery.
User Review - 8/10 by John WI liked it. But if was a but was. Little confusing at times
User Review - 8/10 by Liam CThis is a pretty old school kind of movie, working with a small budget probably didn't help matters but House of Bodies is pretty interesting and has some really unique elements and thankfully doesn't become a lazy slasher flick like one could assume from the name. I think the story here is quite creative, it doesn't really tell you what's going on at first and tricks the audience for a little bit but when things started to get going in the house, I really liked what was happening, in and outside the house. The outside story did its job of giving us the backstory to the house. The actors were pretty good too, unfortunately, even though I can't say I didn't expect it, Howard, Latifah and Fonda aren't really in it much at all. It isn't really their story but it certainly is strange, considering that Latifah produced it as well. Fonda does a good job, you could tell what role he played just by seeing his name, villains always gotta have that kind of name and just look at his face on the poster. Howard and Latifah do good too but aren't in it a lot, especially Latifah; they honestly felt a little distracting in parts. The younger actors are good too, especially Alexz Johnson and Harry Zittel which is probably due to the fact they have the most development. One of the characters has a disability and it isn't used for any cheap gimmick, the character just has it and it fits into the story well and I actually really cared about their relationship, it was well written, felt very natural and I really cared about these two and what happened to them. The only bad actor was the mother on the phone, she was literally just reading her lines off the page and really didn't seem to care but it's not like it matters. I like the soundtrack in the movie, even if sometimes it did seem out of place and after awhile it did play too much. It's also good that the movie doesn't have anyone get nude for some reason, while there is someone who disrobes, it didn't feel out of place and you don't see anything that just feels shoehorned in like a horror cliche - even if some characters do do some stupid things, you'll know them when you see them. While Johnson and Zittel's characters are developed, in turn, we don't learn much about the other characters, you still feel bad for them when horrible things happen because you wouldn't want it to happen to anyone but it doesn't have the same impact as it would for the other two, obviously. The ending of the movie was quite abrupt and odd. House of Bodies is a pretty good small budget movie, it has some well written characters and a really unique set up and I enjoyed it for what it was. It's a little, small budget movie and I'm judging it for what it is. This website says it's a horror, imdb doesn't, well, whatever it is, it's a short movie that has a fine pace, a good cast and does a good job at what it set out to do.
User Review - 4/10 by David TSo much potential wasted. The non-linear structure seemed unnecessary to me, not to mention confusing. It just wasn't called for with this movie. Other than that, the film would of been decent. Kudos to the cast but they didn't have a whole lot to work with.
User Review - 4/10 by Kevin RThe kid ate a cigarette. A series of gruesome murders at a dormitory led to a known criminal being arrested and tried for murder. The killer doesn't seem to want to hide his actions too much. A detective integrates the arrogant criminal and pries the grizzly details out of him on the events that led to nine college students losing their lives. "You can't control your kid. Somebody is going to fuck her." Alex Merkin, director of Across the Hall, Percentage, and episodes of Girls' Guide to Depravity, delivery House of Bodies. The storyline for this picture was just okay and kind of a cliché slasher flick with a pretty clever ending. The characters were okay and the cast delivers better than I anticipated performances. The cast includes Terrence Howard, Queen Latifah, Peter Fonda, George Katt, Alexz Johnson, Juliana Harkavy, Karlee Eldridge, and Tim Ware. "You know me, I like to come home and work on my relationship with the DVR." I grabbed this off Netflix because I was surprised at the better than average cast on such a mediocre sounding film. Unfortunately, this is a below average, straight forward, horror flick with little going for it. This is worth watching once, if you're a fan of the genre, but I wouldn't go too far out of my way to see this picture. "You didn't kill any of them." Grade: C-
User Review - 4/10 by Vincent LIt only gets 2 stars from me because some of the blood effects were pretty impressive for such a film. Now, to tell you why you won't care to see this movie... the two men billed above the title, and the only reason anybody would watch House of Bodies, barely play a part. They literally sit in a room together and share maybe 15 minutes of screen time. Lame!
User Review - 4/10 by Simon RHow can a movie with such big names attached - Fonda, Queen Latifah, Howard - be such a dud? This slasher / serial killer movie just has no power. It crawls along with killings taking place in the former home of a serial killer that is now used for re-enacting those murders by co-eds. Imagine that! Nothing imaginative and the twist is really lame. I did like Alexz Johnson though.
User Review - 4/10 by Todd Sfor a 'crime thriller' it's really not that thrilling
User Review - 2/10 by Amelia S'House of Bodies' just goes to prove that it truly is... hard out there for a pimp.
