The aftermath of a high school shooting leaves Deanna Cartwright seriously wounded and nine others dead, including the perpetrator. Det. Martin Van Zandt is assigned the unenviable task of investigating the crime and finding someone to hold responsible. His attention settles on Alicia Browning, a darkly troubled outsider who, as the only person present throughout the entire incident, is both the key witness and a possible suspect. Further complicating her isolated existence, Alicia's high school principal compels her to pay a reluctant visit on the still-hospitalized Deanna. Privileged and popular, Deanna differs dramatically from the alienated Alicia. Yet, beneath an upbeat appearance, she is struggling desperately with the emotional and physical scars left by the attack. Over the next few days, united by nothing more than their common suffering, the two young women form an unlikely friendship to cope with the tragic events that threaten to overwhelm them.

Reel Film ReviewsDavid NusairThough the film is overlong (it runs over two hours), it's never boring - mainly due to a pair of fantastic lead performances.
Movie ViewsRyan CracknellThe relationship that Deanna and Alicia forge is fascinating...as it allows for a genuine search for truth instead of something that is forced or contrived.
TheMovieChicks.comCherryl Dawson and Leigh Ann PaloneA powerful movie that loses some of its momentum by touching on too many stories. It's not always easy to watch, but it's thought provoking.
TV GuideKen FoxDistinguishes itself from other such projects by dealing less with the event itself than its devastating aftershocks.
Denver PostLisa KennedyAlicia and Deanna's journey toward friendship, or at least a truer understanding, is moving.
New York TimesStephen HoldenThe lead performances of Home Room go a long way toward camouflaging the severe flaws of this exceedingly earnest movie.
New York Daily NewsJack MathewsToo often crosses the line between good melodrama and rank cliché.
NewsdayJohn AndersonOverwrought, way too long, and rife with emotional implausibilities, the film comes very close to being an affront to the memory of the victims of these real-life catastrophes, because very little in it comes very close to being real.
User ReviewMercedes BGreat movie. No matter who you are, you'll want to finish it. I cried in the end. It explains what pain can do to people and that nothing is ever easy to just get over. Very edge-of-your-seat. Intense and emotional. Everyone has a past and you can never run away from it. It catches up but the damage has already been done.
User Reviewshtivelman mreally sad movie, makes you think of life and things that are happening at schools.
