Movie Reviews

Filmwell - 9/10 by Jeffrey OverstreetThe closer Storkel gets to the individuals who are dedicated to this 'vocation,' the more interesting the movie gets.
Film Threat - 8/10 by Mark BellHoly Rollers looks slick for a documentary, and despite utilizing the talking heads-style approach, it does so with an eye for interesting composition.
User Review - 10/10 by Thomas RThis movie is about card counters, not about card counting. It chronicles a group young white dudes introduced by their pastor and their troubled rise to card counting glory. With the silent cameraman, some parts of the movie feel like The Office would if it were a serious movie about super Christian card counters. The most interesting thing about Holy Rollers is how the characters' faith affects the way they run and expand their operation. They almost all Christians who met through the church, and their shared faith forms the basis of them trusting each other with vast amounts of money. They and their families all question whether playing blackjack is really moral. When they fire the only non-believer from the team, we see them struggle to explain, to each other and us, why it's good that they are all white Christian men. The camera doesn't offer any conclusions, you are left to find your own. Overall, I wasn't bored for a minute of this movie. It's a fascinating look into a really bizarre group of people.
User Review - 8/10 by Jonny PNo movie has wanted to make me start card counting then this movie. I think one of the big things that can be learned from this movie is that if a group of people working together that can truly trust each other can accomplish so much. You can learn a ton about card counting in this super interesting story.
User Review - 8/10 by David PThis was serious, informative, and entertaining. Well worth looking at.
User Review - 6/10 by Mel FA documentary about card counters that are Christians! Oh, but besides a belief in god, they're just normal people... Okay.
User Review - 6/10 by Chris LThe subject matter is far more captivating than the technical aspects would lead you to suspect. For me there were no mind-blowing observations or arguments presented, but it kept my attention and does warrant some discussion.
User Review - 4/10 by Andy CNot anywhere near as fascinating as other documentaries/films about card counters. In fact, it's mostly just the card counters BSing their inner thoughts into the camera. It's also pretty obvious that, other than the basic skill of card counting, they don't have a clue what they are doing. Which is why they are constantly detected and thrown out of the casinos, why they are having long losing streaks, why one of the team members is getting away with pocketing cash, etc. Take a pass.
