He offered her a large sum of money if she would renounce his son. She promptly refused and Mr. Brompton went home and told his wife what had happened. This raised Sybil in their estimation and Mrs. Brompton asked to be taken to see her. She noted the cleanliness of the humble apartment and their scant but appetizing meal. The junior Bromptons asked the senior Bromptons to join them, which they did and the family was once more united.
