New Zealand HeraldFrancesca RudkinHip Hop-eration celebrates living life to the fullest and is full of laughs, colourful characters and Kiwi attitude.
NOW TorontoRadheyan SimonpillaiThe novelty of older white folks bouncing to hip-hop is not lost on some of the younger dancers in the film, who point out that this demographic usually calls the cops on them. The film rides that novelty, because really that's all it's got.
Globe and MailBarry HertzIt's cute, and some of the subjects offer poignant lessons on the power of artistic vitality, but there's little in the way of true depth here.
User ReviewRick BHIP HOP-Eration wil make you cry and laugh at the same time
User ReviewNicola EThe most moving and inspiring film of the year. It has shifted assumptions about old folk I thought I didn't have. And I am so optimistic about ageing now! Shout out to Billie - you have created a gorgeous thing.
User ReviewSimone SFantastic inspiring film everytime Ive seen it - which is a few times i get tears
User ReviewMargaret CHip Hop-eration is one of the best documentaries or even films I have seen in a long time. I took the husband and friends and we laughed cried and laughed some more, what an amazing group they are and the fabulous Billie who gives everything to inspire and them the opportunity to travel and perform. This movie is for every age, and inspires young people to appreciate their grandparents, and to make you realise that age is no barrier. Every one in the movie theatre clapped at the end of the performance and what a performance it was....
User ReviewKim BBrilliant film, interesting, inspirational, fascinating, engrossing. I love everyone of these people!
User ReviewNarrative MWatch this if: You can't help but wanna watch something when someone says, "just trust me on this one." Hip Hop-eration is crazy, far-fetched and just adorable. This hip hop crew of senior citizens live on Waiheke Island, New Zealand. Their goal? To make it to the World Hip Hop Dance Championships. This movie is everything. It's feel good. It's laughs. It's life. Muser tip: Watch Hip Hop-eration's Ted Talk before viewing. It takes the documentary to another level of real.
User ReviewDan BCharming little documentary on a senior citizen hip hop dance crew in New Zealand. It's very basic, there's nothing particularly inventive about the way it's made and it's probably better suited to the smaller screen. All that aside though, it's nice hearing these old folks back stories and watching them do their thing, zimmer frames 'n all.
